Subaru legacy gt twin hard to start on a warm day

Keeps cutting out when u first try to start it, cranking it up warms cold engine...almost impossible to start in cool morning...sounds like it only running on 3 cylinders, fans running on startup...but will start first pop when warmed up everytime, as if problem never existed?...feels like a simple problem...like a fuse ???...what r the most basic places i could check, b4 doing a engine overhaul lol...ive been told air filter sensor, temperature sensor and that thermostat isnt working, a cylinder isnt working...but if that was the case why does it run like a dream when its warm...??? its basically just a starting problem, where engine keeps cutting out when u first try to start it, cranking it up warms cold engine...i need expert advice not mechanical advice !!!

yes my mechanic said - night and day sensor is needed, it tells the car when it is hot or cold, or something like that...basically the automatic choke isnt working, which is now ofcourse a sensor...does this sound right to you, sounds right to me, cheers

Could be a faulty O2 sensor. The sensor would not take action until the engine warmed up. Have you checked for trouble codes in the engine computer ?

Starts when cold

Sounds like a bad ignition system, if its firing poorly through your distributor once it warms up its not firing hot enough.

We have a Subaru Legacy GT, Twin Turbo 93, the car cut out and will not start, no fault codes, replaced spark plugs, fuel filter, checked the fuel pump, replaced air flow meter, engine temperature sensor,...

sounds like your timing may be off, or have a crank shaft postion sensor failing, when it cuts are you losing spark completely? do you have a fuel pressue gauge? whats the pressure? also you could try running it with the map sensor unplugged and see if the condition improves

Legacy estate overheat problems

I would replace the thermostat as a first step. It sounds like the thermostat is not opening after warming up, keeping the coolant from circulating.

The engine will not idle when cold

possibly the coolant temperature sensor is faulty

Most of the time it is difficult to start cold,

It is very p0ossible that the fuel system is a little clogged. It happens to all cars eventually especially if you use the cheaper fuels like supermarkets etc.

Anyway, you can try a decent Injector Cleaner and even change the oil but again use a decent Engine Flush. The stuff I use on my own and friends motors is Injection-Correction.co.uk. You can buy it online and it works a treat. Same stuff the prestige garages use...

Usually a dose of this stuff will give the fuel system a good clear out and make it alot easier to start when cold. Starting issues are usueally fuel related or electrical but by the sound of yours it is purely fuel related. Try it out and reap thebenefits.....

Hard to start warm engine

Sounds like you have a problem with your fuel injectors, either they are working to much or not enough once they get warm....

Take it to a shop ant tell them you want the injectors tested.
