If there is no switch present then it is full time 4X4, it does not disengage, good for travel bad for fuel mileage.

I recently had the same problem and I took the switch out of the dash and took apart the switch and found that the 2wd part had broken .I took the plastic cover for the switch and cleaned the buttons with A Qtip and left the broken plastic piece out .put it back together and instantly I had control of my 4wd.Good luck

I have a 99 Chevy Blazer, I have had it for about six months or so. The past month and a half, it pops out of 2 wheel drive and into 4 wheel drive (sometimes blinking back and forth between 4 hi and 4 lo)....

I have the same trouble. It seems a relay is keeping it in 4wheel drive. I havne't solved the trouble yet. It may be a loose or corroded wire in the connector to the TCCM located in the passenger kick panel. Dealer part about $450 or more. For the moment I took out the fuse for the 4 wheel drive. It is located in the lower right hand side in the fuse the box under the hood. It disengages the 4wheel drive and I replace the fuse if I need the 4wheel drive.
