02 Dodge Durango-rattling valves,abs & brake light off and on

The brake and abs light come on if a problem is detected. When the abs light is on the abs is NOT working. You need to pull the codes from the ecm to detect the problem

may hav a bad abs module--dirty brake fluid causes it--expensive to replace---git car scanned or checked by specialist

Check to see if the brake light switch under the dash at the brake pedal is bad before you go too much further.

When the abs light goes on on a 1996 to 2005 domestic vehicle, I would get my hands on a $99 or so OBD-II Brake scanner made by Actron. It will tell you which wheel speed sensor is not giving a signal to the module, or what subsection of the abs brake system is making the light turn on.

I got one from Amazon.com for about $114 delivered to my doorstep a few months ago to help diagnose a problem in a 1997 Cadillac Deville Limo I acquired.

did you check the speed sensor on the rear end on top of the rear end. this sensor works the speedometer the abs and break lights and power door locks

Most of the Gen 1 Durangos had the useless rear wheel ABS. This fuse most likely goes in the the PDC or power Distribution Center under the hood next to your battery.

How is the pedal now? Your 02 has rear drum brakes which sometimes need to be adjusted to keep a firm pedal.

YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE PROPORTIONING VALVE!!
DOES IT HAVE ABS BRAKES ON THE FRONT? (MOST DURANGOS ONLY HAVE ABS ON REAR ONLY)

Sounds right & check manual for warranty guidelines for your emission system & components, sometimes they are a little longer than 40,000 I believe.

when the check engine light comes on means its a sensor could be going bad,,, to find out what it is you can go to autozone they will check it for free and tell you whats wrong..... same with the ABS will tell you which whell sensor or other part is bad..... hope this helps
