Depending on the type of vehicle home remote system you have and the type of garage door opener installed will determine how you program the system in your vehicle.
Below is a web address for the owners manual to your Buick. It will show you step by step how to set your Buick's remote system to open your garage door.
Good luck.

Transmitter Programming
Important: All transmitters which are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.
Install a scan tool.
Use the scan tool in order to access programming: Vehicle Control System/Computer Integrating System/Module Setup/BCM/Program Key Fobs.
Press the START soft key on the scan tool.
Important: The scan tool must stay connected until all of the transmitters are programmed.
Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of 5-10 seconds, the scan tool will indicate that the transmitter is programmed.
Repeat the previous step in order to program up to 4 transmitters.
Remove the scan tool.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Programming the HomeLink Transmitter Do not use the HomeLink Transmitter with any garage door opener that does not have the stop and reverse feature. This includes any garage door opener model manufactured before April 1, 1982. Be sure that people and objects are clear of the garage door you are programming. It is recommended that a new battery be installed in your hand-held transmitter for quicker and more accurate transmission of the radio frequency. Your vehicle's engine should be turned off while programming the transmitter. Follow these steps to program up to three channels: 1. Decide which one of the three channels (one of the HomeLink buttons) you want to program. 2. Press and hold the desired button on HomeLink through Step 3. 3. When the HomeLink indicator light begins to blink slowly (this may take up to 30 seconds), hold the hand-held transmitter about 1 to 3 inches (3 to 8 cm) away from HomeLink and then press and hold the transmit button on the hand-held transmitter. Continue to hold both buttons until the indicator light on HomeLink begins to flash rapidly (this may take up to 90 seconds). If you have trouble programming HomeLink, make sure that you have followed the directions exactly as described and that the battery in the hand-held transmitter is not weak. If you still cannot program it, move the hand-held transmitter to the left or right or forward or backward or flip it upside down. HomeLink may not work with older garage door openers that do not meet current Federal Consumer Safety Standards. If you cannot program the transmitter after repeated attempts, refer to "Training a Garage Door Opener with Rolling Codes" later in this section or contact the manufacturer of HomeLink at 1-800-355-3515, or on the internet at www.homelink.com. Be sure to keep the original hand-held transmitter in case you need to erase and reprogram HomeLink.
Training a Garage Door Opener with a "Rolling Code" Feature (If Equipped) If you have not previously programmed the hand-held transmitter to HomeLink, see "Programming the HomeLink Transmitter" listed previously. If you have completed this programming already, you now need to train the garage door opener motor head unit to recognize HomeLink. 1. Find the "Learn" or "Smartbutton" on the garage door opener motor head unit. The exact location and color will vary by garage door opener brand. If you have difficulty finding the Learn or Smart button, refer to your garage door opener owner's manual or contact the manufacturer of HomeLink at 1-800-355-3515, or on the internet at www.homelink.com. Because of the steps involved, it may be helpful to have another person assist in programming the transmitter. 2. Press the Learn or Smart button on the garage door opener motor head unit. An indicator light will begin to flash when the motor head unit enters the training mode. Following this step, you have 30 seconds to start Step 3. 3. Return to HomeLink in your vehicle and firmly press and release the programmed HomeLink button three times. The rolling-code garage door opener should now recognize HomeLink. You may either use HomeLink or the hand-held transmitter to open the garage door. If after following these instructions, you still have problems training the garage door opener, contact the manufacturer of HomeLink at 1-800-355-3515, or on the internet at www.homelink.com. www.gmcextendedwarranty.com
If this is the 3 button HomeLink Transmitter usually centered overhead above the rear-view mirror, this should work:
While the engine is turned off follow these steps to program up to three channels: 1. Decide which one of the 3 channels (one of the 3 HomeLink buttons) you want to program. 2. Press & hold the desired button through step 3. 3. When the HomeLink indicator light begins to blink slowly(this may take up to 30 seconds), hold your hand-held garage door remote about 1 to 3 inches away from the buttons & then press and hold the button on your garage door remote. Continue to hold both buttons until the indicator light on the HomeLink begins to flash rapidly(this may take up to 90 seconds).
If it still doesn't work, make sure the batteries in your garage remote are not weak, and try again moving the remote back & forth and left & right or turning it upside down while programming.
Also note HomeLink will not work with older garage door openers, especially not with ones manufactured before April 1st 1982.
Look in the owners manual to find the proper sequence. Your garage door opener must be compatible with this new technology. Your opener should have a code learn button on it that must talk to your vehicle for it to work
You'll need to open the transmitter in the car and match the frequency to the garage door reciever, assuming you have the fob for the garage door, opening this will reveal a set of tiny switches. This combination is the frequency you need. Open the transmitter in the car, and place all of it's switches in the same position as in the fob. If this doesnt work, then the governing frequency isn't the same and there's not much you can do. Hope this helps!
The solution is in the owners manual. If you want to program the "homelink transmitter" in your car,you will need a remote unit for your garage door opener to do this.It is fairly easy and straightforward.I programmed my 07 Pac and it works great.Good luck!
I cannot find the 2004, but you can buy it from the dealer. You can download the 2003 and 2005 from this link. http://www.extendedgmwarranty.com/owners-manual/buick_owner_manuals.html
