I can't open the trunk of my 1985 Mercedes Benz 380 SL. The key doesn't work, but it used to open when the car was unlocked.

  • faglil50 Sep 11, 2009

The central locking on the 1985 model is operated by a vacuum and is not electrical.

Once the engine was started, the vacuum was set up and the trunk opened.

I need to find a trunk for 1985 mercedes 380 sl new it does not matter if it is aftermarket

You may find one at a Pull and Save yard. there are many in most all of the states. Or find one at a junk yard.

Cant figure out how to open rear trunk, the remote seems to be unlocking it. it wont open. is there a safety feature or is it broken ????

if you can hear it clicking inside, it more than likely came out. the linkage should be held in place with a plastci clip, if that broke you could be stuck taking it to mercedes. did you try the key. if it works with the key, then its the actuator itself.

Mercedes SL 280

Hello, I'm not sure if you are talking about the lid that you have to open to get to the fuel filler cap or the cap itself. If it's the fuel filler cap that you are talking about, you will need to take a pair of channel locks or equivalent and grab the two metal pieces that are about 3/8" wide, hold the cap with one hand and turn the pliers with the other until it snaps back on top of the ex centric.
If it's the actual lid that won't open, it is a vacuum problem. You can try to leave the car running, then work your locking system back and forth with the key in the drivers door. That should get the trunk unlocked. If you can get the trunk open, look to the upper right in your trunk and should see a round pull knob, pull it and your lid will open.
I hope this helps.
