SOURCE: Rear drive shaft seal leaking

Yes, but you will need to mark the yoke position and exact number of turns to remove the nut or you will change ring and pinion gear lash setting when re-installing it. You can use a large pipe wrench to hold the yoke still while tightening, or get a special tool made for that.

SOURCE: 2005 equinox. rear drive shaft

No this will NOT work. This could possibly ruin the transfer case on the car if you try to drive it with no rear drive shaft.

SOURCE: how to remove rear diff. cover on a 87 honda acty ?

you may have to break the adhesive seal around the flange . Rem,ember that you will also have to pull the drive shaft (axles) to the diff. To break the adhesive seal you may use a jack and lift a bit under the pinion flange while using something like a chisel to help break the seal

SOURCE: I'm trying to remove my drive shaft so I can replace u joints. I removed the four bolts, but the drive shaft won't budge. A video I watched said you only needed to remove the rear bolts

spray penetrating oil to loosen rust and debris and use a pry bar or soft mallet to hit joint from yoke

1996 Dodge Dakota SLT ext cab 3.9 V6. How to remove drive shaft? Has a double shaft with a bearing in the middle. Bearing has a square frame around it.Has 3 u-joints on the drive shaft.

The shaft is removed in one piece. You first locate the two bolts that hold the center bearing assembly to its cross brace and remove them. Then, you go to the rear differential and remove the two straps holding the rear u-joint to the pinion shaft. Once you remove the rear u-joint from the pinion shaft, tape the loose end caps in place to prevent loss. Now you can slide the driveshaft to the rear, disengaging it from the transmission in front. You may want two people to do this as you need to avoid allowing the front yoke of the driveshaft to slam into the ground. Installation is the inverse of removal.

How to remove the rear drive shaft

Un-bolt the drive shaft from the pinion shaft on the rear axle, there are 4 bolts that require a 12pt. socket. 13mm I think. If there is a carrier bearing on your vehicle, you will need to remove the two bolts attaching it to the cross-member between the frame rails. Then slide the shaft out of the rear of the transmission or transfer case.

How to remove rear drive shaft 1996 jimmy

Hi Todd, I'm glad to help!

Todd sometimes when a drive shaft has been on a vehicle for a long period of time it has rust build-up around the caps. If you take a hammer using it at the diff side of the shaft hit the drive shaft toward the front of the vehicle. This will help free the shaft from the diff and allow you to remove it. NOTE: If your shaft has a carrier bearing in the middle then you'll need to remove the bolts from it before beginning. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Todd.

TOOK BOLTS LOOSE ON DRIVE SHAFT LIKE YOU WOULD ON REAR ONE BUT FRONT DOESN'T PUSH IN AND COME OUT LIKE REAR. I'M TAKING TRANNY OUT TO REPLACE AND NEED TO GET SHAFT OFF.

IF IT'S REAR WHEEL DRIVE, YOU SHOULDN'T NEED TO REMOVE BOLTS ON FRONT! IT SHOULD SLIDE OUT OF THE TAIL SHAFT OF THE TRANNY! SOME ARE A LITTLE HARD TO REMOVE, BCUS OF THE LONG YOKE SHAFT ON THEM!

I have a 2000 all-wheel-drive, the rear drive shaft is broken. I can't find the manual that covers Chrysler all-wheel-drive, it looks like the ABS monitor in it, and something from the transmission...

place a jack under the transmission and raise it a bit unbolt (the transmission mount) "i think thats what u mean its all i know that above the transmission holding it in place. You'll need a rachet wrench for this and a long onbe at that,, if not you can use a piece of pipe,, you'll want the extra power.. Unbolt it and lift it off,, if its still too tight jack the transmission up a bit. That providing your refering to the transmissing mounting rubber Which is all i can think you man its the only thing above the transmission. The ABS is 2 parts ,, its a mastercylinder and a booster. Its mounted on the firewall (its the thing you pour brake fluid in.) Unjack any wire or hoses by unscrewiung them and pluging them with something.. DUCT TAAPE or rescue tape works.. Unbloth both the mastercylinder and booster from the firewall... unmounting the drive shat.. well you'll see where it bolts ,, front and back.. Thats the easir part.. you will heed o happer, pull and tug the shaft until it pops out.. Hope I was helpful.. if you need more help please feel free to ask.

HOW DO YOU TAKE THE DRIVE SHAFTS OFF A 2002 DODGE DURANGO

To remove the drive shaft you will need to raise the vehicle off the ground and support it with jack stands. There are 4 bolts that hold the rear drive shaft u-joint in the pinion yoke on the rear differential. Once you remove the bolts and u-joint straps, then just carefully pry the u-joint from the yoke. Be careful not to let the u-joint caps slip off of the u-joint or you could lose the needle bearings that are in the u-joint caps. Once you have freed the shaft at the rear you can just slip the drive shaft rearward to remove it from the transmission. Place a drain pan under the transmission where the drive shaft is connected, as transmission fluid will run out, and you don't want it dripping on the ground. If you vehicle is four wheel drive and you want to remove the front drive shaft, you remove it just like the rear shaft but there are bolts and straps on both ends of the front one. You will probably need to keep the front shaft from turning while you loosen the bolts. You can use a long screwdriver or pry bar inserted in to the area between the u-joint and the yoke.
