Check the vacuum hoses ,if you have lost braking since the turbo has quit then the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump to the brake booster has cracks in it replace the hose. You should have approximately 26 in HG at idle and full throttle. It is a $6.00 fix.

Check the operation of the N75 control of the actuator that controls the variable geometry turbo. The veins may be seized in the turbo

My vw Golf 4 1998 model, engine 1.8 speed sensor is dead. now temporarily i would like to know if i have to drive 120km/h, what rpm do i have to drive at using the rpm meter?

roughly if you are doing 3000rpm you will be doing approx. 100 klms/hr or 60 mph at 120km/hr you would be around 3200rpms.; Remember this will be in o/drive or 5th

Hi, i've been told the turbo on my 2006 !.8 Golf TDI has blown and need a new one. How much would a new one cost please? Thanks

Best place to start is eBay vw turbos can range from $250.00 to $700.00 but it depends on your model and engine size. You can look up vw golf websites and I believe you can even by them cheaper through club web sites

Turbo cut off

That's a (relatively) common problem with mk4 TDIs. Likely causes are the MAF (= Mass Air Flow) sensor in the air-intake (directly behind the air-filter) and/or the N75 Boost Pressure Controle Valve.

You should have your car's ECU read for faultcodes to troubleshoot the cause. It might also be useful to create several diagnostics logs with VAGCOM while test-driving.

This can be done by a mechanic using VAGCOM or by a VW dealer. See http://www.tdiclub.com/ (and it's forum) for more information and perhaps help.

19 tdi loss of power

I have a 1999 VW golf tdi with intermittent loss of power. The turbo will cut in for a few seconds, then die forcing you to change gear and get a small boost again. The turbo will not boost much past 2200 rpm. The cars computer has been plugged in at the garage and does not show any problems. Various people have said, replace turbo, air mass meter or just simply wash turbo filters in WD40. Can anyone help?
