There are switches in the latch pin in the door jamb, the switches are not in the door like most fords. if you look at where the door latch meets the striker you will see a rubber sleeve if you push it you will see it goes in and out. that is you door open switch, when door closes it removes ground going to the GEM or body module. when door opens switch is grounded and thn lights come on

SOURCE: Automatic door lock and open

Hi,

Thank you for contacting fixya.com.

There are various factors behind an automatic door lock not to work in your car. Set the door locks of the vehicle to their locked and unlocked positions. Listen closely for a buzzing noise and a vibration coming from any of the locks that don't function. If this noise is present, then a door lock actuator has burnt out. These are small motors placed in the door panels that lock and unlock the door. They can be replaced without great difficulty, though getting the door panel off can be difficult depending on the model car.

If the auto door locks not function and not make any noise, use a multimeter to check the car's fuses. A burnt fuse may look no different than a functional one, but it may prevent auto door locks from working correctly. Also make sure that the wires running from the fuse box prior to the point where they split and head for each of the door panels are unbroken, with no signs of charring. If the wire prior to the point where it splits into multiple smaller wires is damaged, none of the door locks would be receiving power to function.

If only one or two of the door locks fail to function, the problem is likely within the door panel rather than at the fuse box. Open up the door panel or panels of the locks that aren't working correctly. Trace the wires running from the door lock actuator to the power relay (which will look like a square black box and sit next to the lock/unlock switch on the door), out to the fuse box. The wires should be undamaged with no soot or charring. Test each wire at either side of the relay box. Should there be power in the wire running from the fuse box to the relay, but no power in the wire running from the relay to the door lock actuator, the relay is broken and needs to be replaced.

So consider all these factors to troubleshoot your problem when the door lock stops working.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

Why won't my My 98 or 99 (sic)Ford Escort chime to indicate I left my lights on?

The warning chime sounds if the parking lamps (13200) or the headlamps (13008) are left on after the key has been removed from the ignition switch lock cylinder and either front door (20124) is opened. There is a chime module that controls this .
The safety belt warning chime (10D840) (also called the central processing unit or CPU) is an audible warning system and timing circuit. The system components include:
  • Timing circuit safety belt switch.
  • Dome lamp switches.
  • Safety belt warning indicator switch which is an integral part of the front safety belt buckle end (61203).
  • Ignition switch (11572).
  • Headlamp switch.
The warning chime sounds and the safety belt warning indicator illuminates when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position and the LH front safety belt is not buckled.
Key In Ignition Warning
The warning sounds if the key is left in the ignition switch lock cylinder when either door is opened and the ignition switch is in the LOCK or OFF position.
Don't any of chimes work ?
  • The Headlamp on Reminder Chime Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Properly
  • Circuits.
  • Fuse junction panel.
  • Warning chime module.
  • GO to Pinpoint Test D .
Let me know ,mite work this out !

How does child lock work on ford focus

generally on the rear end of the door, visible only when open, there is a mechanical switch which will disable the interior door latch. means it can't be opened from the inside. If you are going swimming with the car, disable it so you can escape from the back seat.

Passenger window does not work

You can get a wiring diagram and tests light and test the circuits. Or just change the switchs the problem could be in a either switch. Also with the doors opened wiggle the wires going from the doors to the body while pushing on the switch. You may have a broken wire in this area or bad connection. Hope it works out.
