1995 cutlass supreme head gasked replacement. Chilton's is pretty vauge on details. Never done this before (6 cylinder 3.1). Only on a 4 cylinder 2.2. Chiton's instructs to remove engine struts and to rotate the engine and I don't have and engine hoist. Is it possible to get around this. Also any tips on radiator replacement would be great. Is it possible it could just be the radiator and the head and headgaskets are fine? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Does the car overheat?
If the head gasket is blown:
1. remove the radiator cap & start car (apply parking/emergency brake).
1. When the engine warms to operating temp, there will be "steam" bubbles coming from the radiator opening.
2. There will be WHITE smoke and water drops coming from the tailpipe..
3. Your oil dipstick will have a "white milky" liquid mixed with the oil.

If none of these are present (normal to have some water dripping from the tailpipe) then the head gasket is probably ok.

testing the compression on each cylinder may be inconclusive, so I don't recommend going to the trouble of a compression test (yet).

1. Obtain a good radiator flush (Prestone) and clean out your system a couple of times.
2. Really good OEM radiators:Try "Cactus Radiators" or any that anyone else recommends.

Please reply or comment .. I may have more info.

Hope this helps!

Why do my 95 oldsmobile cutlass supreme dies when hit gas

Did you replace the fuel filter as well as the oil filter ?. If there is a good spark at the plugs it has to be a fuel problem . Check the fuel pressure and flow the flow is most important. if the pressure is high the regulator on the fuel rail may be stuck shut . and there will be no flow on the return line.

Need firing order for 89 olds cutlass supreme 3.1

To be 100% sure it is 1-2-3-4-5-6. Your number one Cylinder is located on the backside of the engine (closest to the windshield) on the Passenger (aka right) side of the engine. Number two is located on the front of the enging (closest to the bumper)farthest right (passenger side). So the cylinder numbers on the back of the engine are 1-3-5 and the cylinders on the front of the vehicle are 2-4-6.
