Certainly sounds like a lack of power in the battery. Do you have a genuine BMW battery or a cheapie replacement? Have you tried to jump start the vehicle. Batteries can seem ok, but when called upon, the power drawn out of them can be insufficient. Try charging battery and starting on the charger- or just jump start to see what happens
If you do not have the book for the radio, I believe there is a trick to entering the code. Its not just using the numbers. I think you have to hold another button down while entering the code or use the station up down button to enter the code. Try hitting all the buttons one at a time and see if that enters anything on the desplay.
Wiring issues is what is sounds like. I also own a 1992 735i Mine was because of a bad ground wire. BMW built the locks to be able to "deadbolt" you can only emergency unlock (when you have no power to the doors, or dead battery) on the passenger side. Also make sure you have a new battery. Or a decent one. Bosch or Interstate.
to turn off the theft system, all you have to do is put the key in the door lock and lock and unlock the door, this shuts down the anti theft system, now this has nothing to do with the radio, the only way the radio would ask for the code is if it was removed or the battery unhooked, anyway try the unlocking of the door even try the passenger door, hope this helps.
It is most likely a flat or dead battery but first check the battery terminals are clean and firmly attached.
If all above checks ok replace the battery.
There are several reasons why an attempted jump start may not have worked, such as :-
1) the jump cables used are poor quality,
or
2) the battery used as a power source may not have sufficient capacity.
Hi Lisa! This possibly is a immobilizer fault and I would be looking at the Fob/Zapper. The way the immobilizer works is to disable the starter and ignition system. These fobs have batteries so try replacing them, if you still have the same grief it may need re-coding. Phone or pop into your local BMW dealer with the Log book/title and ask for their assistance, It shouldn't be expensive unless the vehicle needs to towed/trailered but I'm sure a Girley smile should persuade someone to visit you at home to code the fob to the car. Hope this FixYa's problem! Paul 'W' Onyer~EDson(:0) {#><U.K.
