I Have a 2001 VW Jetta wolfburg right seat air bag & curtain deployed I removed air bags. is it possable to reset dash deployment light my self or do I have to replace air bags and send computer in to have factory settings reset. looking to have car pass inspection the light has to operate correctly.
Only a VW technician has the software to reset air bag faults.
FixInfax is right except I'll add a few add ons to his statement. Number one. If the airbag deployed you'll have crash data saved in the airbag module. Anytime an airbag is deployed and data is stored you must replace the airbag module as well and the new one must be coded by Volkswagen. Number 2 as a technician of vw I would not erase or repair any airbag faults previously repaired by someone else because we cannot be sure what parts were installed or if they were well installed. If someone came to me and said we replace the module and the airbags can you code the module alone my answer would be NO, because too many safety aspects ride on it. Imagine someone did this for a client and a day later they were fatelly injured because of a crash or deployment and the last person to touch the system was a vw tech. It is too risk for the tech to do so, so when an airbag is replaced it should be only done by the qualified tech who will do the whole job.
