Great question and I have done the same
the damper fails and I just remove it and turn the shaft where I please. (a stop gap fix)
damper motor pulled off, mine has 4 damper motor drives.
picking the right one is the the only trick (cool/hot blend,?)
to learn that RTM read the shop manual online./

First thing is to look at the a/c fuse and relay under the hood in the power panel. Possible blown fuse or a bad relay. If no blown fuse or bad relay found then go to passanger side of truck and you will see a black canaster with a low pressure switch on it. Remove plug to switch and using a jumper wire jump out the plug to see if the compressor clutch comes in. (have the truck running with the a/c selector switch on ). If the clutch comes on then it's either you have very little freon gas in system or the low pressure switch is bad and will need to replace it. Use small pliers to remove switch and replace it with a new switch, make sure it has a new o-ring inside switch before installing it. Hope this will help you.

Pull the instrument panel (dash board), remove the HVAC case, disassemble the HVAC case and replace broken door (G.M. Part #19130554) and reassemble. The job takes an experienced mechanic about 8.5 hours with air tools and electric screw guns, and costs about $1050.00 (including evacuating and recharging the A/C system.
