I put the battery on the wrong polarity briefly and blew the computer and the stereo went out too after replacing the computer all problems were fixed except the aftermarket stereo is still dead where is the fuse for this or could it just be fried?

Most aftermarket stereo units have an in-line fuse fitted either on the live wire at the back of the unit, or fitter directly into the unit. Remove the unit and you will see it...no problem.
However the bad news is...in all cases that I have encountered where a battery was connected up the wrong way...the unit was fried...deep fried. Way too badly burned to repair. But I wish you all the best of luck with it.

For an after market stereo the fuse should be an inline fuse in the power wires that the installer ran from the radio to the fuse box. May be a fuse in each wire. Red wire and yellow wire. Also check and see if their are any fuses in any of the wires ran to the positive side of the battery. I am unsure if reversing the battery wires would blow a fuse or just fry a unit.

I think we may have reversed the polarity. How do I confirm and fix the problem?

Was the battery IN THE CAR when it was being charged? If so, I'd say you might want to call a shop. It may have fried all kinds of things. I've seen cars run with the battery cables on backwards, they just couldn't hook up a car stereo in it...but that was a much older car without the computer components we have now.

About the only thing I would do if it was me, is get a new battery and put it in it, hook it up properly and see what happens. You MIGHT be very lucky. If it won't start or run right, then call a shop...sorry.

1998 camry signal lights, odometer, stereo, windows and rear lights dont work

You are more than likely looking at the MAIN BUS FUSE or you could have fried your ECU. Testing is needed to determine what is wrong

Replaced mega fuse now wont start

Putting reverse polarity to a battery will do more damage then blowing a fuse. Chances are you could have taken out the ECM and possibly the TCM

Reversed polarity on jump start. now wont go into gear or hold charge

OLder cars YEs you can jump it without a battery. But in newer cars that use computers and advanced Eltronic ignition/timing/ful injection you have to have power to the cars computer. without a good battery the car will not run.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I put the battery backward on my honda prelude while it was running and now it wont start can u tell me what wrong

The reverse polarity should have blown at least 1 fuse to prevent further electrical problems, I would start by looking there, replacing blown fuses and then trying to restart.

I replaced the battery but put it in backwards now the car wont go into gear and the esc and abs lights are on.

Some items/assemblies can be protected against incorrect polarity, others cannot. The extent of damage could be pretty bad; among the things that may be impacted:
- Alternator- These use diodes to make DC from the AC voltage it produces and applying reversed polarity to it will fry it internally. - Any device using 12V DC and employing solid state components; this includes: the main computer, the ABS computer if separate, braking computer if separate, stereo system and some types of sensors.
Restoring your car is likely to be very costly. You have my sympathy.

Hooked up the battery reversed polarity. Blew the fusible link but replaced it. Now the car will crank but not start.

start checking fuses hopefully its just another blown fuse if your lucky

but if all the fuses are good, you probably fried something like the computer or ignition module and probably the radio

hopefully its something simple and cheep but don't be surprised if you have to shell out some cash to replace the computer

Possible electrical problems.

I would suggest that you check to see if the battery is connected properly---correct polarity!

If connected wrong, main fuse will blow. Lights come on because power is routed through the frame (ground) briefly.
Hope this helps.
