Audi A6 Anti Theft Central Locking Tantrums

Hello, a couple of days ago I went to open my Audi A6 2000 with my key remotely like I usually do, but the doors kept locking. When I press the unlock button on the key, the car unlocks and immediately locks again. I came up with a way to use the key manually and open the door before the car locks it. It's very weird. Also the car sometimes refuses to let me out! It also sounds the alarm while it's locking me in. The ignition does not start but if I wait about a minute, it stops its tantrum and it lets me use the key. It's very embarrassing! What is the issue? The car recognizes the key but it refuses to open the door. Luckily the tantrum issue is not happening all the time. so now I sneak up on the car and use the key without the remote, unlock and turn the car ON before the monster wakes up. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS THING? Please help me. Judy.

anabil provided an advertisement instead of a solution. Not helpful at all! Audi isn't even in the list. Very deceiving.

It's FINALLY fixed! I'm not scared of my car anymore! I had called the dealership for help. The parts person said that I should bring it in for checkup. I said I just would like to find out if there's a quick fix. He said he'll have a mechanic give me a call if it's something that can be done by the owner. Well today the nice mechanic called me and gave me a couple of instructions and now it's back to normal. The car opens and locks with the remote key and the alarm is behaving! That was an experience to remember. Judith Berns--

Hi, I tried disabeling the alarm system temporarily but I was told it cannot be done.
Also I do have 2 keys for the car. They both have new batteries. The key that I always use looks OK but I tried leaving it inside the house and using the other key. They same thing happens.
After I posted the trouble on Fixya, the car was fine for a couple days and then now it's back doing the same thing.
Thanks for your help but that wasn't it.
    Judith-

Sounds like you are having problems with your built-in alarm system. Like most systems in your Audi, you can read the error codes stored in the controllers. It takes a tool normally only a dealer has (VW or Audi) or an adapter like the VAG Com. (Google it)

I also think you can disable the alarm system and just use the key.

Could the lock button on your remote be stuck? Use a different key/remote. (leaving the suspect key at home.) The keys/remotes can be taken apart....

You really need a dealer to reset the anti theft and key recognition. There are very few independent shop who can successfully do this .

It does sound like you also might have drivers door micro switch fault...very common as the vehicle gets older . Have the shop can for faults in the body module. It will store a code if the door micro switch is not working.

If you like reading about VAG vehicles and seeing how to fix problems, try a visit to www.VWVotex.com where you will find the VAG community sharing the fixes and problems on these machines.

Depending on the year, anything over about 1998 has whats called a 'central convenience module' that controls the windows, locks, sunroof, alarm, etc. It sounds like the one in your car is faulty. Its possible that the bad alternator caused some sort of power spike that has semi-fried the module, but not completely. They can be had used for < $100 generally.

Just bought a 2003 Nissan Navara 2nd hand. Has central locking but no remotes were handed with it, how can i find out if this vehicle has remote central locking or not

The remote should be built into the key. If not the remote central locking would be after-market. After-market remote central locking is part of an anti theft device so the fob you get with the key's has two function's it opens the door and disables the imobliser. If it had a fob and it was'nt with the key's then the ignition would'nt work so the car would'nt start. So it dosent have remote locking. Before giving up check the dash and suround's for a small either green or red light which looks like it was installed after-market if their is one then it still may have remote locking but was disabled for some reason but although it is there unless you really need it don't bother with it because you will need to get it rewired then get a fob which will need to be programed. Hope this help's Cheer's

Car won't start

Yes the imobeliser and alarm ar all part of the anti theft device. Both are either disabled with your key or a remote. If it's remote button you press then it may just need a new battery. If it's remote central locking then alway's open the door with the remote and not the key.

Remote central locking not working on my audi A6 2.4 automatic petrol left hand drive but when doing it manually with key only drivers door opens and all indecaters flash quicker than usual

As far as the central locking issue, it sounds like you need to replace your central locking pump. You can buy them online.
I have a 95 A6 and I am in the process of looking for a new central locking pump.
The part number may be 4A0 862 257 J, that is what it is for me.
There are directions online as to how to change this yourself once you get the part. If you buy from the dealership the part is $500.
Be thankful your child locks weren't engaged. We haven't been able to open our back doors since the pump went out.

Central locking system does not work

You should still be able to lock your car with the key, remember how we use to do it the old way..... with the key :-D. The central lock solenoid is located in the door itself, behind the door trim. Replace the offending solenoid with a new or used one. And once again you can lock/unlock the car with the remote
