Web page I posted one year ago is not working anymore. But basically it's the ring (looks like a gear) right behing the rotor (disc brake), that is broken (cracked) because of rust expanding underneath. Then this ring doen't turn anymore with the wheel, and the sensor can't anymore send the right message to the ABS and/or AWD module. That's why the computer says it's faulty. Common issue on Escapes and Tributes.

Dealer charges around 300-350 canadian dollars to replace 2 in the front.

I cleaned the hub and glue the ring back on with epoxy glue.It only costed a few cents its been over 3 yrs and its still holding.

Possible faulty or dirty wheel sensor. Have it checked by the dealer or an experienced mechanic. Hopefully this helps

2005 Ford Escape - have awd. When i encounter bad roads, the 4wd light flashes. It resets it self when i shut off the ignition; however my abs light has never come on and their were no error codes o

Usually it means there is a component of the system that is not working. It could be a sensor or mechanical problem.
You'll probably need to take it to a dealer or major shop to get it tested.

Flashing 4wd and steady abs light on ford escape

I have a 2005 Ford Escape and have this problem. I can tell you that if the light comes on every .8 miles and blinks for 8 times, learn to live with it. After taking to dealer when it first started in about 2008, having the tone ring changed on the CV's for the tires, after been told maybe an alien lived in there....the light sell happily blinks on.If it comes on and stays on I would worry more than if it blinks intermittently. Mine has what they call "Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive" [which must be an oxymoron], but still has the 4X4 light to indicate when supposedly it switches in to 4-wheel drive according to driving conditions. Certainly if you haven't noticed any other abnormalities with how the vehicle drives this could very well be the culprit.Hope this helps.

The 4wd light in my 2005 escape is bllinking

Hi there:
The 4WD module gets info from the ABS module, so when one has a fault, it affects the other. First I suggest inspect the front ABS sensor indicator rings an the axles and scanned the ABS module to know if some fault code is there. They are known for breaking, and possible damage could occur to front abs sensor. Repair the sensor issue and both lamps should go out.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

2006 ford escape.. #1. abs light on & stays on. #2. 4wd light comes on,flashes 8 times then gos off

Changing the sensors &/or tone ring may work temporarily but it won't last. I have a 2005 and have had it done and it kept happening. Had it serviced at dealer, asked dealer how to fix it or make light go out and on and on....after I think 5 yrs. it is still on. It hasn't affected my vehicle as far as I can tell. Comes on blinks 8 times, goes off....drive another 8/10ths of a mile and it comes back on, flashes eight times...and so it goes tidily bomMust be an Escape kinda thing.

My wife has a 2007 Ford Escape The ABS light comes on and off while the 4WD light flashes less often. It does need breaks as there is a grinding sound when you stop. What does the 4WD flashing mean

there is a steel ring with cogs on it that engages the ABS they crack .You need it on a lift to see, they are behind the rotor its a $37 part but a lot of labor

You need to remove your tyres and clean the abs sensors well enough.

You might also change your brrake pads if they have gone bad.
