Can an engine rev when cambelt is taken off?

Hi

To answer your question directly......NO, the engine can not rev when the cambelt is removed, it won't even start. This is virtually impossible for any 4 stroke engine.

i will explain why....... The cambelt connects your camshaft with your crankshaft, when the engine was assembled, the camshaft and crankshaft was turned on the correct alignment marks and the cambelt was fitted. These marks on the cam and crankshaft allows the 4 strokes to happen at the correct time(intake stroke, compression stroke, power stroke and exhaust stroke) If the cambelt had to be removed, there will be serious damage done to your engine, in the first place, the car will not start if the cambelt was removed. the correlation between your camshaft and crankshaft will not correspond and the pistons will hit and damage the valves.

I hope the above description will help you.

I need timing belt marks for new timing belt on a 1994 Toyota Camry LE 2.2L 4 cylinder

Firstly the no.1 piston should be at TDC (compression).

The upper camshaft sprocket has a smaller hole in the web. This should be lined up exactly with the TDC timing mark behind it on the cam bearing cap. In this position it will be vertically upwards.

At the same time the notch in the crankshaft pulley timing flange should be opposite the 0 degrees mark on the timing marks on the front of the lower belt cover.

How do you set the crankshaft to the time shaft valve timing on a 3 litre Toyota V6 Camry?

There are marks on the crank gear and the cam gears that line up to marks on the new timing belt. An old belt might not have the marks any more because of age. Therefore a new belt might be necessary to be sure of this.
