I noticed that my Lincoln LS 2001 was dripping Transmission fluid about a year ago. It is very few drops but every night. Now it is slipping and grabbing. I want to check the trans fluid volume and don't know how. This transmission has two years on it. Like many people who have had these cars the transmission went out at about 60,000 miles.
I have had many problems with this car.
SOURCE: 2002 LS: aHow do I fill radiator in my V8 Lincoln LS...
First- to drain ,you can reach the drain valve, from the pass side,if you lay on the ground and reach up to the radiator. You do not even have to raise the vehicle up
Second- mix Yellow GO5 Coolant about 50/50 or 60/40. Do not use Green in a Ford or Orange GM
To Fill- Remove the front two plastic screw type buttons, from the engine cover
-Remove the cover
The radiator cap is on the front of engine,on top,it is plastic
Remove cap and that is your fill point
Run engine to warm and get thermostat open,as you would with any vehicle
Top off coolant,replace cap
VERY IMPORTANT-next to the Power Brake Booster, and just under it,is a BLEEDER HOSE;to let air out of system. Turn screw slot ,only a little,DO NOT REMOVE SCREW. When coolant runs out close.
Fill-Degas Bottle,to full line,with coolant.
Check the next couple days on resevoir level ( Degas Bottle)
SOURCE: were is the temp sensor on a 2002 lincoln ls v8
On the intake, Near the top radiator hose inlet, Note this model has 2, 1 Runs the guage, The other tells the pcm what temp the motor is for strategy. DO NOT REMOVE THIS WITH VEHICAL WARM OR HOT. IT WILL SPEW COOLANT IF YOU TRY, Allow vehical to cool all the way, And this is a very easy repair :) Good luck, God bless
However, on a Lincoln site, one person stated:
"I had my tranny fluid changed which made it shift even harder. the mechanic told me to take it to Ford and have them reset the computer. So I pulled the battery cable off for a minute and put it back on to reset the computer. Now the car shifts like it should... Try this first, its free".
On the Lincoln forum, Tom stated, " the Transmission Pressure Control Solenoid Pack needs to be replaced. This seems to be a common issue on the transmission you have. There are 3 pressure control solenoids & 4 shift solenoids in one plastic part ,made by Bosch. You remove the trans pan,the gasket is reuseable silicone You remove the filter, You remove approx 7 -- T30 bolts, holding the solenoid pack & one 10mm electrical connector bolt. HPN-9L2Z7G391A about $400 for the part and add on labor. Add in some new Mercon V and filter kit and your good to go. "
Good luck.
Good
TRANSMISSION FLUID
Checking automatic transmission fluid
The 5R55N transmission does not have a transmission fluid dipstick.
Refer to your scheduled maintenance guide for scheduled intervals for
fluid checks and changes. Your transmission does not consume fluid.
However, the fluid level should be checked if the transmission is not
working properly, i.e., if the transmission slips or shifts slowly or if you
notice some sign of fluid leakage.
Transmission fluid should be checked and, if required, fluid
should be added by a qualified technician.
