MY OPEL 2001 JS 2.6 V6 AUTO...WHEN I ACCELERATE QUICKLY OR KICK DOWN THE ENGINE DROPS REVS DRAMATICALLY AND GOES INTO LIMP MODE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON.

I CAN STOP THE VEHICLE AND RESTART AND THE CAR MOSTLY OPERATES NORMALLY AGAIN. I HAVE REPLACED THE ECU BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS

SOURCE: traction control light comes on while driving in good weather

My 2002 Millenia just started doing this the other day, while on the freeway when it started doing it i would shut engine off and restart it and it would be good for a while then it would do it again, i am still looking for solution, has any one found one?

sounds like a faulty wheel sensor.

more likely throttle body problem. instead of paying maserati $6k for new one which will have sae fault after 6 months, email me as I recondition them at 1/3 of the price.

You have a new battery right? As a first course of action, please remove the positive battery connector and let it sit for atleast 10mins. Reconnect the positive battery connector and turn the key on ON position then OFF, do this 10 times and on the 10th crank the car. Take it for a few runs and observe how it goes.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems.

Bud sounds like your cpu is malfunctioning or a serious electric prob. Have a dealer hook it up to diagnose the specific prob. Save you a lot of money and time

CAr wont accelerate when i put gas down.

is the engine light on or any other light on, on the dash board. engine may be in limp mode limits the revs and put engine is standard setting. cam and crank sensor fail one of them will put engine in this mode when they fail.

check the spark plugs and wires. the turbo motors have an aluminum head that expands and contracts too quickly and cracks the ceramic insulator on the plugs causing the engine to run irratically when it starts making boost and drops into a safe mode. also throws the trans code.

I can explain the sluggishness you get after the fault occurs and the light appears. The rodeo will go into what's called 'limp home mode' when it detects a fault. It is a safety feature that locks the car in second (or third) gear so u can get home or to the mechanic...slowly. If you turn the car off and re-start it will re-set. I recently was having transmission problems with my 2002 v6. It would occasionally clunk badly when pulling up to a slow stop. Intermittent problem that I couldn't reproduce with the mechanic (of course). They changed the transmission oil which was low and old, not a cheap job but probably a good idea. Unfortunately problem was still there. Plug in diagnostic module at transmission specialist showed no current faults when they first checked it, but a look through the fault history when I took it back and told them problem was still there showed a fault with the TPS or Throttle Position Sensor. Replaced that (not very expensive) and its been perfect ever since. May not be your problem, but get the transmission guy to check fault history, not just current faults. Don't know why my guy didn't do it the first time. Best of luck
