SOURCE: rear brakes uneven breaking as per mot tester

The Chardes have a diagonal split system, so one of the front discs is plumbed to the diagonally located rear drum.

You may need to check the front brakes too and that they have been bleed properly.

Other common cause of uneven braking are:

seized wheel cylinder;
brake hose obstruction or weakend wall;
weak pull off spring on shoe;
uneven drum roundness;
compensator/proportioning valve dicky.

SOURCE: hand break

The last comment is a but wrong. Let me explain why:

The pistions on the rear is ALL MR2s are not the push in type...You need a special tool to screw them in... You can rent the tool for free at your local AutoZone but they charge like a $55 dollar core charge...once you bring it back they refund your money. TRUST ME if you are gonna try this route you want that tool!!! I did a full brake and rotor job on my MR2 3 weeks ago and without that tool I would still be working on them ; )

Back to the brakes though...are you sure they ever really worked properly? The MR2s are notorious about "brake cable freeze" this is where the cable becomes locked in place and feels like its putting pressure on the pads when you engage it, but it really isn't. This happened to me last winter (and it seems to happen most often in the winter) but I haven't fixed it yet. I pulled up so hard on the lever that i snapped the cable in half when I tried to keep the MR2 from rolling.

You may need new cables. If you have someone apply the hand brake for you and you are watching from both sides of te rear of the car (with the wheels off) you should see where the cables attach to the back of the calipers on each side of the car. When it is being engaged you should see the cable pull on the lever on the back of each caliper. If this doesn't happen, then you are the victim of "brake freeze" and if it matters that much to you then you will need to have the bad cable or cables replaced.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

SOURCE: I want to change brake pads on my 03 Mazda Protege

Some calipers have a bolt holding the hand brake mechanism to the body of the caliper. hold the mechanism with a spnner or If yours dont simply lever the mechanism with a bar or long screw driver. Place a pair of lock pliers/ mole grips on the cable(not too tight or you'll fray/damage the cable) then remove the cable from the caliper. When you get the pads out use a screw driver or wind back tool to reset the caliper travel or you will damage the caliper or lose the hand brake altogether.

SOURCE: Tail break lights don't work. Window break light does work however. Bulbs have been replaced.

Check the brake light fuse. The high mounted brake light (third brake light) is on a different circuit than the brake lights. Hope this helps.

How do i adjust hand break new shoes fitted on a smart for two hand break lever is all the way uo ?

Adjusting the Hand Brake is quite easy

At the bottom of the Hand Brake Lever , you will see the cable with like nuts (teeth) on the cable locked by the lock on the lever it self, you will need to open the lock , take the cable off the lock , drop the handle down and put the cable back on the lever and lock it.

That is how the hand brake is adjusted on the Smart car 2002 model

Jammed brakes

if its the rear brakes probably the hand break has rusted on or the breakes have seized take wheels off and tap the rear hubs with a hammer not to hard as you could break the drums if this doesent work check behind the hubs and drums to see if there is any movment of the hand break cable if not these have seized or rusted on try spraying wd40 or equivalent into drums to try and release them

if its the front breakes the pads will have to be removed and the front pistons in the calipers will have to be check making sure that they are still in the cylinder runners and haven't poped out which they can if the breakes are very worn down usually to the metal hope this helps ivan

89 gta with 4 wheel disk breaks and the e break does not hold at all. both caliber have been changed and adjusted the small screws on them so the pads are just touching the rotors. the cable has been...

You need to adjust your hand brake (e-brake) you will usually find the adjustment bolt under the console between the front seats, or under the dash, depending on the type of hand brake you have. it looks like two cables going to a crossbar then single cable from the crossbar to the hand brake. at the end of the cross bar will be a nut that you use to adjust the hand brake (make sure you hand brake is off before adjusting it)

I have a 1996 buick regal 3.8 L V6 with which i am having a lighting issue... The lighting down the entire passenger side will not work. The headlight, turn signal, parking light, tail light and break...

not to shore about the lighting issue but with the breaks it sounds like your caliper slides are seized our your hand break cable is seizing up holding the breaks on, try and remove the pads and see if the caliper flots on its slides if not remove and clean up and regrease the slides if this is fine try having a look at the cable for the hand break make shoure it moves free
