Audible Warnings Description and Operation .

The audible warnings alert the driver of a system concern or a critical vehicle condition. The radio generates the audible warnings through the speaker. The radio receives audible warning requests via the serial data circuit. If the radio receives multiple audible warning requests, the warning with the highest priority sounds first. The following lists the audible warning priority and the pulse rate:
• Fast rate chime (200 pulses per minute)
• Medium rate chime (150 pulses per minute)
• Slow rate chime (50 pulses per minute)
• Single chime

Do you know what serial data circuit is? It's not a fuse problem an you wouldn't check for codes in the PCM - PCM is the engine computer, you would need a professional or factory scan tool to check BCM - body control module DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes if anything .

Turn Signal On Warning
The radio activates the turn signal on audible warning as requested by the body control module (BCM). The BCM sends a serial data message to the radio indicating the chime frequency and duration. The turn signal on warning sounds when the following occurs:
• The ignition is ON.
• The BCM detects that the turn signal is active for greater than 1.2 km (0.75 mi). The BCM calculates the distance based on a serial data message from the PCM/ECM indicating the vehicle speed.

Fasten Safety Belt Warning
The radio activates the fasten safety belt audible warning as requested by the body control module (BCM). The BCM sends a serial data message to the radio indicating the chime frequency and duration. The fasten safety belt warning sounds and the fasten safety belt indicator illuminates when the following occurs:
• The ignition switch transitions to ON.
• The BCM detects that the driver seat belt is not buckled. The radio receives a serial data message from the BCM indicating the driver seat belt status.
If the seat belt is buckled when the ignition is turned on, the chime does not sound. If the seat belt is buckled while the chime is sounding, the chime stops. If the seat belt is unbuckled after the initial transition to ON, the chime does not sound.
Key-In-Ignition Warning
The radio activates the key-in-ignition audible warning as requested by the body control module (BCM). The BCM sends a serial data message to the radio indicating the chime frequency and duration. The key-in-ignition warning sounds when the following occurs:
• The ignition switch is OFF.
• The BCM determines that the driver door is open.
• The BCM determines that the ignition switch is closed.
Lights On Warning
The radio activates the lights on warning as requested by the body control module (BCM). The BCM sends a serial data message to the radio indicating the chime frequency and duration. The lights on warning sounds when the following occurs:
• The ignition is OFF.
• The BCM determines that the driver door is open.
• The BCM determines that the headlamp switch is in the PARK or HEAD position.
Park Brake Warning
The radio activates the park brake audible warning as requested by the body control module (BCM). The BCM sends a serial data message to the radio indicating the chime frequency and duration. The park brake warning sounds and the brake indicator illuminates when the following occurs:
• The ignition is ON.
• The vehicle speed is greater than 5 km/h (3.1 mph). The BCM receives a serial data message from the PCM/ECM indicating the vehicle speed.
• The BCM determines that the park brake is engaged.
Additional Warnings
The following warnings have an associated instrument panel cluster (IPC) indicator:
• Antilock Brake System
• Air Bag
• Brake Warning
• Charging System
• High Engine Coolant Temperature
• Low Fuel
• Low Engine Oil Pressure
• Service Vehicle Soon
The body control module (BCM) sends a serial data request to the radio indicating the chime frequency and duration of the chime. The warning sounds once per ignition cycle when an indicator illuminates.
For a description of each indicator, refer to Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation.

Does your radio work? Can you hear sound out of driver's door speaker?

Circuit/System Description
The radio generates the audible warning through the left speaker. The radio receives audible warning requests via the serial data circuit from the instrument panel cluster (IPC) or the body control module (BCM).

Circuit/System Verification
Important: Before performing this diagnostics, make sure no indicator(s) are illuminated after the IPC performs a lamp test. If any indicators are illuminated after the bulb test, perform the indicator diagnostics before this diagnostics.
Ignition ON, headlamp switch OFF, verify the scan tool Headlamp Switch parameter is Inactive.
? If not Inactive, refer to Headlamps Malfunction.
Ignition ON, doors closed, verify the scan tool All Door Lock Command is On.
? If not On, refer to Courtesy Lamps Malfunction.
Ignition ON, radio ON, adjust the radio balance and fade to the left front speaker.
? If the speaker does not operate properly, refer to Speaker Malfunction.
Verify that the Key In Ignition Cylinder Switch parameter is Yes when the key is in the ignition and No when the key is out of the ignition.
Circuit/System Testing
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the ignition switch.
Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 2 and ground.
? If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the power mode circuit fuse is open, test the signal circuit terminal 5 for a short to ground.
Verify the BCM scan tool Key In Ignition Cylinder Switch parameter is No.
? If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 5 for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 5 and the B+ circuit terminal 2. Verify the scan tool Key In Ignition Cylinder Switch parameter displays Yes.
? If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
If all circuits test normal, test or replace the ignition switch.

    Circuit Description
The communication among control modules is performed through the GMLAN high speed serial data circuit and the GMLAN low speed serial data circuit. The modules that need real time communication are attached to the high speed GMLAN network. The body control module (BCM) is the gateway between the networks. The purpose of the gateway is to translate serial data messages between the GMLAN high speed buss and the GMLAN low speed buss. The gateway will interact with each network according to that network's transmission protocol. Refer to Body Control System Description and Operation for more information about the gateway.

The powertrain control module (PCM) on this vehicle, uses a class 2 serial data buss. The class 2 buss is only used for diagnostics and the service programming system (SPS). During normal vehicle operations, there is no communications over the class 2 serial data buss. Normal vehicle operational messaging for the PCM is sent over the PCMs GMLAN high speed serial data buss.

I have had this problem now three times. Twice the dealership has replaced the entire left door speaker. It's out again and this the car is no longer under warranty.... is there an easier fix/less expensive fix now?

SOURCE: my 2008 pontiac g5 has trouble code PO128. I

On nearly any common engine, you can follow the upper radiator hose toward the engine and find the thermostat. I is often under a dome-shaped housing attached to that hose and bolted to the engine block, often with 2, at the most, 3 bolts. When replacing the thermostat, ensure you get the correct replacement gasket and thoroughly clean the surfaces of the removable housing and the mating surface and use a thin film of silicone sealant or adhesive on both sides of the gasket and do not over-torque the mounting bolts when reassembling. Not moderating the force you use can result in twisting off a bolt which then presents another problem again. Unfortunately some cars may use a thermostat with a permanent element embedded that cannot be replaced without disposing of the entire multi-port housing that contains the thermostatic element; these are much more expensive to replace and no better than the simpler type.
If you are unsure, call several repair shops for quotes before turning your car over for this fairly simple job and you might check any business' reputation with your area BBB.

The Body Control Module (BCM) controls the audible warnings. Refer to Body Control System Description in Body Control System for more information regarding the BCM.
The body control module (BCM) controls these reminders:
• Key in ignition reminder: An audible warning intended to remind the driver that the key has been left in the ignition cylinder. The BCM sounds the chime for this reminder at a rate of 150 chimes per minute.
• Fasten seat belt reminder: An audible warning intended to remind the driver at the beginning of the driving cycle that the driver's seat belt is unfastened. The BCM sounds the chime for this reminder at a rate of 50 chimes per minute.
• Fasten belts indicator control: A visual warning intended to remind the driver that the driver's seat belt is unfastened.
• Parking brake reminder: An audible warning intended to remind the driver that the parking brake has been left applied with the transaxle shifted out of PARK. The BCM sounds the chime for his reminder at a rate of 200 chimes per minute.
• Turn signal reminder:
An audible warning intended to remind the driver that the turn signal has been left on while the vehicle has traveled over 1.2 km (¾ mile). The BCM sounds the chime for this reminder at a variable rate (in unison with the turn lamps on) of 90 chimes per minute.
• Headlamps ON reminder: An audible waring intended to remind the driver that the headlamps have been left on. The BCM sounds the chime for this reminder at a rate of 200 chimes per minute.
• Last door closed locking confirmation: An audible warning intended to provide the driver feedback that the last door closed locking feature is active. The BCM sounds the chime for this remainder at a rate of 200 chimes per minute.
• Feature customization and diagnostics feedback: An audible feedback used when changing feature customization modes. Also used by service technicians during the BCM diagnostics. The BCM sounds the chime during the feature customization, and also during diagnostics. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) for additional information.

The turn signal click is not loud enough.

Do what I did: go to Radio Shack and get a 12-volt chime (80dB Chime
Model: 273-071), about $10.00. Then do what the person quoted below did. You'll NEVER forget that your signal was left on. ALSO: if the sound is too loud for you, tape a few thicknesses of paper towel around it to reduce the sound level.

A GREAT little device By Karlbadge_vr_en_us.gif from Athens, Alabama on 7/19/2007 Pros: A safety device, Consistent Performance, Durable, Easy To Configure, Versatile Best Uses: In The Car Describe Yourself: Tech Savvy Primary use: Personal Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments about RadioShack 80dB Chime:
These are GREAT devices. For years I have used them on my cars, trucks, and motorhome. My turn signals are not equipped with a sounder, so very frequently I forget they are still on when I make shallow turns such as getting onto the Interstate or passing another vehicle. These little chimes remind me to turn off the signals.

They are so easy to install. Just strip about an inch and a half of insulation from each of the three wires. Twist the blue and black wires together. Find your turn signal flasher under your dashboard. (Listen for the clicking when you turn on the signals.) Pull the "flasher" out of its socket. You should see two prongs. Wrap the blue/black wires around one prong and the red wire around the other. Plug the flasher back in and turn on the signal. (Don't forget to turn on the ignition first.) If the chime works, just attach it to anything under the dash. If it doesn't, just reverse the leads on the flasher prongs.

I have NEVER worn out one of these chimes. Of course, I am using them at their prescribed voltage of about 12 VDC.
