1993 Ford AWD Aerostar Van. When the engine is

1993 Ford AWD Aerostar Van. When the engine is running and the brake pedal is depressed it goes to floor and does not want to release. However, when the engine is not running and the brake pedal is depressed it functions at what would appear normal. Also at this time the brakes do not stop the vehicle at all.

Sounds like the front calipers are not fully retracting properly. Check the front caliper operation while a friend pumps the brake pedal, the rubber lines could also be cracked and allowing air into the lines. Check brake fluid level.

What does the btsi seloide look like

Check the release cable. There is a cable that activates when you press down on the brake pedal. This allows it to shift. So if you are depressing the brake pedal and it won't release, check that cable.

1994 aerostar van , automatic trans , will not shift after sreering column was worked on

Check out the brake pedal lights. If the van is stuck in Park, a switch on the brake pedal lever sends a signal to the release. The brake lights probably do not work and you are missing this signal.

Your foot needs to stay on the brake pedal in order for the shifter to work.

Brakes wont work pedal goes to floor changed the master cyclinder bleed brakes and still have same problem 1990 ford aerostar van

What is the condition of both front calipers? both rear wheel cylinders? and the complete brake lines and hoses of your van? If they are all good with no traces of leakage, then did you bleed the Mastercylinder on the bench first before installing in the van? Did you gravity bleed the 4 wheels first? did you bleed from the farthest wheel first? Are you using a new Master and not a re-built??

How to get to the thermostat on a ford aerostar 93 awd van?? where is it located??

1993 Ford Aerostar 4WD 4.0L MFI 6 Cyl Repair Guide

1. Drain the cooling system with the engine cold.

CAUTION When draining coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

2. Remove the retaining bolts for the thermostat housing. Lift the housing clear and remove the thermostat. It may be easier to clean the gasket mating surfaces with the heater and radiator hoses removed from the thermostat housing.

Just replaced master cylinder on 1990 aerostar and bled the brakes, still the pedal goes to floor and i have no brakes

Did you bench bleed the master cyl. before installing it? then when you installed the new master, did you bleed all 4 points? If yes, then check all for points for leaking caliper/s and leaking wheel cylinder/s. If the van has ABS, check the valve body for a bleeder screw and see if air bleeds out of it. If you've checked everything twice and did everything right then your new master cyl. may be defective.

Engine almost dies when applying brake pedal. Battery dead.

Broken or loose vacuum line. Check all your vacuum lines with the engine running. Listen closely for air. Wiggle them around and see if anything changes.
