Pan has two plugs in it.
start vehicle, run through gears a couple of times then while engine running with vehicle on flat ground remove fill plug and top up until oil trickles out.

There is no dipstick, only drain and fill plug on trans oil pan. It is very easy to change the trans fluid, as long as you can flip the car upside down (lol). I used a gallon of ATF with a pump and a hose to fill. Kind of a pain in the **** and a little messy but got the job done...

Can't find dip stick for transmition

There is a dipstick, most likely rear drivers side of engine but could be elsewhere. There are only 2 dipsticks in engine compartment, one is oil and the other is trans fluid. They should be marked. You add the fluid down the dipstick tube. Engine needs to be running in park and trans needs to be at operating temp to get accurate measurement on fluid. Hope this helps.

I changed the fluid and filter on my 1997 dodge 1500 and the same day the transmission stopped shifting gears....what could be the problem?

it is possible you either did not add enough fluid, added too much fluid, or the fluid you replaced the old with was the wrong type for the trans. was there a problem with the trans before you replaced the trans fluid? make sure that when you change the trans fluid you are working on a flat surface. if you pull/check the dipstick while the truck is on jack stands, or otherwise elevated, you reading will be off. and you may find that after pouring in the new fluid and setting the truck down to test drive and circulate the new fluid that you have put too much fluid in the pan. this will show up as bubbles on the dipstick, or fluid coming out of the fill tube. also make sure the fluid you use is the right type. chrysler transmissions require different fluid than ford, or chevy. though you did not specify if your trans is manual, or automatic.

How to check de oil Transmision

prev.gif next.gif Transmission Fluid Automatic Trans. Fluid Level Checking
  1. Park vehicle on level surface.
  2. Set parking brake and chock wheels.
  3. Warm up engine. NOTE: Allow automatic transmission fluid to reach 140-158 degrees F (60-70 degrees C).
  4. Move shift selector from "P" to "1" and then back to "P".
    • Automatic transaxle fluid level should be in 65 degree C range on dipstick.

Transmission slipping and light is blinking

check the trans. fluid level. the procedure should be in your owners manual. if you cant find the procedure, a good default is to have it in neutral on a level surface with the parking brake on with the engine running. find the dipstick with "trans" or an icon of a gear on it. if it's low, add fluid. when you add fluid, add about a half a quart at a time. and after every time you add, get in, put your foot on the brake and shift back and forth from park to reverse to neutral, to drive a few times, slowly. if you're unsure of what type of fluid to use, ask the boys at the parts counter. if your fluid is not pink/clear red, you're in trouble. if it's brown, dirty, or has flakes in it, your trans is junk.

Where does on put in transmition fluid?

Before you put transmission fluid in, make sure it needs it. Check the transmission fluid with vehicle warm, engine running, emergency brake set and transmission in neutral. Pull the dipstick and wipe it off. Insert the dipstick back into the dipstick tube completely and then pull it back out. The fluid level should be between the two marks on the bottom of the dipstick. If it needs fluid pour the fluid into the dipstick tube (using a funnel). Only add about 1/2 quart of fluid at a time before you recheck it. Do not over fill the fluid.

Where would i find a transmission dipstick

The Saturn L series automatic transmissions do not have a dipstick. They are the "new breed" of transmissions that are SUPPOSED to be trouble free. There is a plug on the passenger side of the transmission by the drive axle It is 11mm bolt. start the vehicle in park on a level surface or hoist...at operating temp pull out the plug Fluid should just trickle out of the plug hole If no fluid comes out add fluid to trans until it does...Where do you add??? Red plug on top/center of trans. Plastic plugthat threads in Add fluid there....Good luck

How can I add trans fluid to my 99 caravan? I cannot locate it

If u know u need to add trans fluid, I assume u found the dipstick to check the fluid level? If so, that's where u add the fluid, w/ engine running and using a funnel, slowly add it. Shift thru the gears slowly several times, and check level again. Don't overfill, it's bad for the tranny.

99 RODEO

If you can't find a dipstick you must fill and check through the level plug in the side of the trans ( usually just above the pan rail on the drivers side)
