I'd suspect the battery right off, disconnect the battery overnight and if it's dead in the morning or even just low replace it, Do this even if the battery tested good or is new. If you satisfied that the battery is good feel the starter solenoid after it sat long enough for the engine to cool off if it's warm the hold in coil in the solenoid is shorted, not uncommon. I hope this helps. Take care.

SOURCE: Electrical Problem with 1999 Subaru Legacy

hi there, your alternator is not putting out enough, subbies should put out about 14.4v and just after starting should put out 40-60amps. charge the batt that is in it now with a small (3.5-6amp) charger overnight then start the car and LOAD TEST the batt and alternator at a battery shop. ask them to put a carbon pile load tester on your system. im pretty sure they're gonna tell you its the alternator. many thanks, hope this helps!

SOURCE: good alternator & battery, but battery goes dead just sitting

The regulator could be sticking in the alternator. Unplug the alternator and see if the battery goes dead. I replaced an alternator once and the new regulator was bad.

SOURCE: subaru legacy fuse 1995

The fuse is only for when you are running a smaller sized spare tire. You have to put one in when you put the spare on to make the car FWD only. Go only far enough to get the tire replaced. Do not drive the car extended distances in FWD.

SOURCE: Dead Batt (poss. Alternator?)

Likely you did this already but check fuses in power distribution box near battery (likely two 60a fuses for alt in there). Additionally, was alternator regulator tested or was alt "full fielded" for test. (regulator failure will prevent power made at alt from reaching the battery). Also, check continuity of leads going to alternator to make sure they're OK.

Same fuse continues to blow when car is turned on, have replaced the alternator, battery. when fuse blows windows wont work, air, and gauges.

Hi my name is Tom and I am here to help.

If a fuse continues to blow, you have a dead short or the unit the fuse is to project is shorted out. I would suggest following the wire to see if it touches metal somewhere or check the amperage on the line to see if a dead short if present,

I trust this was of help. If I can bee of further help let me know

95 subaru legacy had the blower quit about a week ago, had no power to the motor so i thought it was the relay. then the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, and temp gauge quit working. I tried to get home...

there is a set of fuses in the engine compartment check these as many cars have a system that allows the car to run till the battery dies check your alternator

Blown fusable strap

Hi

Provided you did not connect the battery jump leads incorrectly, (which should have blown this fuse.)

(Correct is... Positive + to Posative and Negative -- to Negative.

I would charge up the battery, have it tested, and renew the fuse and go from there.

If all runs normally, check your alternator belt tension too.

Good Luck

John.

No electrics

If you had smoke coming out of the fuse panel, the culprit fuse/ relay will most likely be scorched. My bet is on a fusable link which normally looks like a short, fat wire but will probably now look like a melted, fat wire in the panel.
Good luck!
