Wd40 or crc spray down the inner part of the cable.(you should be able to spray it down the tube near where it pulls out.) let it sit a few mins and see if that frees it up.
Failing that it could be the actual choke sticking. Carby cleaner spray should free it up. To do this Remove the air filter and find where the choke cable goes. Disconnect it and see if the cable moves freely.if it doesnt its your cable.check there are now sharp benda , damage to cable or if its been squashed somewhere. If it does then there is a butterfly valve on the carby (closest to where the air cleaner was.that is your choke. Make sure it moves freely if its stiff give it a spray with the carby cleaner while moving it till it frees up. Re assemble and you should be good to go.

I will assume that "cold engine" means the physical temperature is below freezing
replacing cable as temp fix says somehow water or something that freezes is getting inside cable... I've never heard of this before.
if above freezing then you may have warped metal whose different temps react as a mechanical thermostat does.
perhaps the engine has a thermostat that needs replacement?

SOURCE: will not start when engine warm

Sounds more like your ignition module is getting hot and not working. I'd go there first before replacing the ECM. You can remove the ignition module and most NAPA stores have the ability to test them for you. Make sure they test it at least 5 times. This way it'll simulate starting and stopping.

SOURCE: 1984 Jaguar xj6 runs rough on cold start and fuel

Hello Drankin ;
The causes of this particular problem can be that of many . Is this car a daily driver or a garage queen ? I would attack this problem by ruling out the items with the lowest cost first . Please note that the info below are some of the steps I would take at tackling this problem .

a) Check that your oil filler cap is on tight and that the seal is good .
b) Check the electrical connections to be certain nothing is loose .or disconnected .
c)If the car has been sitting, run it for a while and try to empty the tank of that old gas . I would refiill it with new gas and fuel injector cleaner .
d) I would change the fuel fiter with a new one .You must do this with the engine depressurized and off with both filler caps open .
e) You could also check for air leaks at the intake manifold .
f) How is your exhaust ? Is it leaking ?Is it blocked at the ends ?
g) Check the the Butterflies on the Air-Flow-meter . Make sure that they open and close easily . There are spray on cleanes for this . Do not hone the openings .
h)Relace the charcoal cannister .
i) I would do a compressionon all 6 cylinders
j)Check the fuel pump for proper pressure or replace it .
k) At the emission's station check to see what is the idle mixure and you may need to have the idle mixure adjusted on the airlow meter .
L) Check/ Rule - Out the Auxillary air valve .
m) Check/ Rule - Out the Fuel Injectors .
n) Check/ Rule -Out the Coolant temperature Sensor
o) Check/ Rule - Out the Air Temperature Sensor
p) Check/ Rule - Out the Thermotime Switch

I hope that this has been helpful to you .

SOURCE: P0300 - (random misfire) only happens when the engine is cold

First start by making sure that the spark plugs are AC Delco plugs or other WILL trigger a P0300. If these are good, the next thing to check is the coolant temperature sensor(ECT). If this is problematic, it will cause too much fuel to be delivered and misfires to occur on all cylinders.

SOURCE: 2002 Jeep Liberty - 3.7 Liter - Engine has begun

I would start with cleaning the throttle bore and plate. Then clean the Idle Air Control valve, IAC, as this is the device that controls idle speed. Use a can of spray carb cleaner and an old toothbrush. Trouble with the IAC would make sense if you can keep the engine going by holding down the gas pedal a bit.
Use the carb cleaner to check for vacuum leaks at hose connections and elbows. run engine and spray short bursts at hoses and listen for idle speed changes.
And lastly if problem is still there check MAP sensor.

My 1987 Toyota pickup is running/starting bad when it is up to temp?

Question edited for all the typos and spelling mistakes.

Definitely sound like a carb issue. You need a good carb tuner who can strip it and clean it. It sounds like the choke is sticking, so it starts fine when cold and then when hot, the choke is still on.

My power max 500 utv side x side kills spark plugs in cold weather, whats the problem?

Define "kills spark plugs"? If they foul fast, their heat range maybe too cold not allowing them to burn off deposits. Be careful tampering with specified heat ranges as you can damage pistons. Are the new plugs the exact replacement part for that engine? I have switched brands of of spark plugs and have gotten "exact replacements" that were the wrong heat range. For me, I try to stick with the brand used at the factory where ever possible. This way, if it's wrong, it's THEIR fault. Colder range plugs will work fine but for much less time. Another thought. Does this have an automatic choke or a manual choke that you have to close and open? If it's manual, close it to start, open it part way to get going. Open it all the way in about a minute to run. If you run it with the choke shut too long, your fuel mixture will be way too rich once the engine warms up, in turn, fouling your spark plugs. If the choke is automatic, take the air cleaner off and look down the throat of the carburetor. When cold, the plate should be closed all the way. Start the engine and watch this plate. If it doesn't open within 1 or 2 minutes at the most, it's thermostatic actuator is either stuck, malfunctioning or not reacting to engine heat as it should. This will cause spark plug fouling in a hurry. A cold engine requires more fuel to run properly. Rather than try to make a carburetor that will deliver variable amounts of fuel according to ambient air temperature, It is much easier and cheaper to temporarily restrict the amount of available air with a choke plate to achieve this goal. If this choke stays closed for too long or if it is jammed shut, What is the right amount of fuel in a cold engine becomes way too much fuel once it warms up.This is the way that carburetors have worked for over 100 years. Good luck.

Another thing that can cause this is the carb. It may be getting too much fuel once it's warmed up. An engine needs more fuel when it's cold than it does when it's warm. Cold engines run inefficiently so they need more raw fuel to fire-up, and stay running. This is all a choke does. A choke plate closes-off the air going into the carb which makes the fuel mixture really rich so it can run. Less air = more fuel. You'll also notice that cars with chokes also idle real high until they warm-up. This fast idle and the over rich mixture (due to lack of air), allows the engine to fire up and stay running. As the engine warms-up and starts burning fuel more efficiently, the choke plate begins to open, which slowly lets more air in and leans-out the air/fuel mixture. Once the engine is warmed-up, the choke plate will be wide open allowing the carb to run as it is supposed to with the correct metering of fuel and air.

Gas not staying in carb, when cold very hard to start

it sounds like the choke isn't closing on the carburetor when the engine is cold ( more gas, less air). normally step on gas pedal once to close choke before starting. need to find someone familiar with carburetors to help as it can be technical setting it up

I have 305 4 barrel in my 86 oldsmobile cutlass supreme, Im thinking there is something wrong with my choke. Sometimes it idles great when it runs for a while but when I took it for a drive up the road...

First inspect choke linkage to see if it is binding or sticking closed when engine is warm. You can spray with WD-40 to help it work more freely. If the carb has a round plastic housing over the choke spring check to see if it has three rivets holding it in place. If it has screws you can loosen the screws and turn the housing slightly to put less tension on the choke butterfly. If it has rivets, drill them out and replace with screws that fit the holes. In the summertime you can probably set a Q-jet carb all the way lean and still have enough fuel to start cold with a couple pumps on the throttle.

My 1984 Ford F-150 V8 302 choke is not working?

Your choke should have a spring at the bottom under a little cover with a rod coming up and connecting to the butterfly for the choke. Usually this get a little corroded and sticks, you need to clean the pieces so that they rotate freely and the rod will move up and down. It is adjusted on some models by bending the rod to make it longer or shorter. When you push down the gas pedal for the first time in the morning it should set the choke, test this by opening the throttle while its cold out, once the throttle is opened the choke should close, once the engine is running there is a vacuum operated linkage that should pull it back some, until the engine is warm. Again if this worked before, its probably dirty so a good cleaning is in order. Hope this helps, let me know

4runner idle high when cold after warm up it idle 1200 rpm shot down engine after fuw min. restarting the engine the idle to low?

it seems that the auto choke setting is maybe wrong or there is a problem with engine management, or a worn part which is sticking.

when cold, the engine should be higher as the choke will be on but a warm up idle of 1200 seem a bit high i would expect around 800 and then on restart if the engine is warm then the choke should be off but the idle being too low indicates one of the above.

Engine surges when cold - Once it warms up it runs fine

If carburated, I would suspect a sticking choke, making the fuel mix way too rich.
