If the neutral safety switch, also refered to as the park/neutral switch were to burn out the vehicle would not be able to complete its starting circuit. The switch operates by only allowing a start signal to pass through it and to the starting motor if the vehicles shifter is in the park or neutral positions. the switch itself is located on the back side of the transmission should be close to the gear selector cable. hope this helps
The neutral safety switch, normally on the transmission prevents cranking and or starting the engine when it is in gear.. If it fails itthe engine will crank and start in any position or gear.Good luck, Ned
On the top of the transmissin reaward near the firewall there is a good sixed plug and a shaft with an arm connected to a cable. This switch tells the engine control computer what gear is selected, the reverse lights to work and the starter circuit to make in park and neutral. Usally the switch doesn't fail in both neutral and park if you have a no start and it won't strart in nuetral either then you may be looking for other problems. If the back-up light fuse is blown you can't get out of park unless its just unlocked but the power off. tHE BRAKE LIGHT CIRCUIT IS INVOLVED TOO. The security light being on steady will cause a no start also. The starter itself can't be left out as puting power directly on the starters start post gets it to crank, Security system issues still may not let it run. Most common problem with the security system is the small wires on the ingtion lock tumbler breaks and then the ECM can't reconize the key.
