Check the ignition switch.

In my case, I know it's something to do with the ignition switch. When I jiggled the key, the air/wipers/lights came back on. But now I can't make that work any more. Yours sounds like the same problem. I'm searching for a cheap fix.

Thanks for the info. Can you please elaborate? I don't know if it's something I can fix myself? How much do you think a mechanic would charge?

Also, if while the car is ON, if I press and hold the right side of the key, pushing it toward the steering wheel, the lights, etc. will go on, but as soon as I let go, they go off.

Knowing this, do you still feel that the contacts have been melted?

    Thanks!

EF Ford Fairmont 1996, accessories stop when ignition switched to start

Eg wipers work while ignition switched to 'accessories' but stop when key turned to 'start'

I had this issue and took me ages and ages of wire tracing and probing. Your fuse box should have the wiper/windows accessories fuses. If you probe them and they aren't showing voltage, check wiring harness, check wiper motor voltage. My ignition barrel was the fault of all this, everything worked when switched to "accessories", but while the engine was running, the accessories turned off. The bottom of the ignition barrel pushed out, as the factory stopper groove bent out. All I did was cold chisel a dent back into the case. BAM fixed my windows/starting/wipers all in one go.

Sounds like you need a new ignition switch. It is either attached to the key cylinder or down towards the bottom of the column, under the dash. It may just be loose, or needs adjusting.

Car starts right up. no power to windows, radio, wipers, mirrors, dome light.

An older car? Try jiggling the key in the ignition, if power comes back you have a worn-out ignition key cylinder.

My dash lights go on and off whenever they please, and my windshield wipers also are not working.

Could be loose fuse box (rear wiring or fuses), jiggle it (or them) slightly to check. Could be ignition contact, push the key in or jiggle it to check. Lesser chance of defective or loose connectors elsewhere such as dash switches themselves. If other accessories are not working there may be a main power line to the fuse box from the battery positive connector that is corroded. Most times this smaller red wire has corroded at the battery cable.

When turning on car turn key all the way nothing happens, then I turn back the key jiggle it then turn it on again it starts up. Told it was the ignition switch, trying to find info. on how to replace this...

On the back of the ignition switch is a plastic casing which retains a spring to return your key to the correct position once the car has started. The plastci casing wears and the spring does not work sufficiently. You need to replace the ignition switch casing/back end.
