It sounds like your brake pedal switch is not working right. Are the lights on all the time, or just when you turn ignition off? If the former, it is bad brake switch. If the latter, you likely have a bad ground located somewhere in the wiring harness.
Most vehicles have the switch located on a small plate next to the brake pedal arm. Follow the pedal up the arm and to the firewall. Along the way you should see a plunger style switch that looks like the one that you bought. It might also be found inside or next to the brake booster under the hood.
It is located on the back side of the brake pedal on a braket under the dash about half way up the pedal.
COMBINATION LIGHT SWITCH SHORTING TO GROUND TERMINAL WILL CAUSE TAIL LIGHTS TO STAY ON AND.YOUR STOP LIGHT OR BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS LOCATED ON A BRACKET THE SWITCH CONTACT OR TOUCH THE BRAKE PEDAL ARM.
Lift the brake pedel while some one looks at your lights
Help.. my back lights stays on what can be the problem. please help me out.
I believe its on the brake pedal on up under dash. Its probably just getting stuck. You may be able to actuate it several times and spray it with contact cleaner. Maybe cheaper than buying one.
