The driver's window lowers a little bit each time the door handle is pulled. The window is suppose to lower approx. 1" when you're opening the door to clear the convertible top but it won't raise back up when the door is closed.

Probably your battery is bad. either charge or replace that and then learn the windows again. (have you got your radio code before removing battery?) to learn the windows do them one at a time with door closed. hold the down button you hear a clck a few seconds after it opens fully now hold the up/close button and again wait for the click. easiest is to hold the button pressed for 10 secs after the windo has fully traveled down then send it up and again 10 secs after it stops moving.

Driver side window lower a bit when the door is opened, and stays down. Lowers more each time I open the door.

You need to have the door disassembled and the window lift mechanism checked. Sounds like the actuator arm has come off, or the motor is dead/dying. (You didn't say whether the motor makes noise when you try to operate the window.) If you're a DIYer, there are any number of videos on YouTube that will show you how to do the diagnosis.

Driver side door lock not working, how to fix it?

The door latch maybe the problem. That needs to work properly before the lock actuator will function properly.

Exterior door handle on 97 thunderbird

You will have to remove the door panel. To do this use a phillips screwdriver and remove the two screws under the inside door handle. Then lift and remove the section. Remove another screw from the interior lower left corner. Pry the window crank apart "if exists" then use a T20 torq bit to remove the screw in handle. Remove the panel by lifting and pulling at same time. With window in up position you can see inside the hole a rod going from the door handle to a bracket with a Yellow clip. Slide the clip to the open position and pull the rod out of the clip. From the outside of door under the handle there are two rivets. Use a punch and knock out the center of each rivet. Then use a 1/4" drill bit and drill out the rivet. A flat tip screwdriver will be used to knock off the rest of the rivet. You will need two flat head screws and lock nuts or to reinstall the handle. Lift out old handle with attached rod. Twist rod as you pull to remove it and install it into the new handle. Place the rod through the hole and look inside to be sure is will move to the location of the yellow clip.Install the screws from the outside and the nuts from the inside and tighten. From inside connect the rod to the yellow clip. Lift on the rod while closing the clip. Then test door handle. If it doesn't work properly the rod was not lifted or pulled outward enough. Redo that step until you get it right. Reinstall inner panel as removed.

Is there some way of opening the vw cabriolet when it's icy and not causing any damage. The windows are supposed to go down but because of ice |I'm afraid there's going to be some kind of damage. What does...

There is a wax you can buy to rub around the rubber surround where the door and windows contact. I don't remember where i got my last stick from but I would think a candle would work too.

You are trying to stop the glass/frame sticking together. So, rub wax on them and see if this helps.
The windows are supposed to drop slightly when you pull on the door handle. If they don't, it usually means the window module has lost it's position memory.

Continue to hold the window switch down for 5 seconds after it reaches it's lower limit. Do the same for fully up position....this sets the modules limits memory and windows should drop as handle pulled to open the door..

Window will not lower when door handle is pulled to open door.

VW window motors are known to be problematic. Lucky you had a service contract, otherwise you may have opted to replace the window motor yourself for substantially less cost.

I need to remove the drivers internal door panel

Remove plastic studs from door closer. Unscrew three retaining screws. remove grab.
Unhook window winder retaining clip. Best done with small long-nose pliers. window winder retaining clip located inside plastic winder handle section. Will need to prise away winder handle from door slightly to expose clip. locate and gently pull clip from winder shaft.
unscrew door opener / lock assembly retaining screw.
gently prise lower trim retaining press studs from door. remove lower trim.
gently , from rear of door, pull upper trim from door and similtaniously prise upper trim press studs from door.
gently giggle door opener / lock assembly through upper trim . remove trim
gently with flat blade, peel off plastic dust sheeting.
access to inside off door is now possible.
Reassembly reverse of above

Cheers !

Beetle Convertible window problem

My wife's car is a 2004 convertible. We had the same problem. There is a switch built into the door latch assembly. Whenever you pull either the interior or exterior door handle, the switch lowers the door glass a certain amount.

We replaced the door latch assembly and that corrected the problem.
