Check the high side ac clutch cut out switch, witch could be in back of compressor,or in a high side line.By pass the switch to see if the compressor will come on.Also the ac module could be gone out.First check the ac clutch relay,or better yet swap it out with a relay just like it,same number will be on the relay, this will tell you if it is the relay.

The ac module can be any where on a dodge, does the ac control head have buttons and digital led? What I am asking ,is the control head automatic? If it is ,the a reset is a good try. Most of the time the battery has to be disconnected to reset, but in this case the ecm, that controls the engine would loose all it`s memory.Look in the fuse panels, and look for the ac fuse and pull it out,and turn on key to see if the ac head , lights up(if it has digital display).I will ry and find out if the ecm is preflashed at factory.Mean while try this things I mentioned. If you don`t hear from me email [email protected]

I think it might be a preflashed computer,so don`t disconnect the battery, unless you know that it won`t affect the ecm.If you have changed batteries before, yourself, and the ecm was ok,then disconnect the battery negative battery cable for about 30 seconds, and reconnect, let me know the out come. The ac,must have a problem,or the ac would not have shut down.A set of ac gauges on the ac system would tell the story, may be the expansion valve has closed up,,,,or dryer has clogged up,hopefully not the compressor. But something shut it down,if the ac control unit is automatic, then it could be simply bad(the ac control unit that you select heat, air vent defrost, etc.)let me know something.

Ok,try the things I mentioned, also the Dakota had a problem with a ac fuse under the dash on the driver side,it didn`t make good contact ,so check to see if 12 volts are on both sides of the fuse, and check, by pulling fuses and look at the contacts to see if one of them has pushed back inside of the fuse block. You can try this, splice a wire on the hot side of the compressor direct to the battery, and see if the compressor will run.Start the vehicle first, and touch the wire to the positive side of battery, make sure it is the hot side of the ac compressor coil, not the black wire.if it acts funky,or doesn`t come on,or trys to short out ,then the ac clutch on the compressor is bad.Let me know how you come out.

Alrighty then, the ac control module is the problem most likely, but have you tried to reset the ac system?Try pulling the ac fuse out for about 15 seconds, better yet, find the ac module and unplug it from all connectors, with key off.I don`t know where it is on that model, but I would assume it is under dash behind glove box some where.Do you have ac gauges? If you do look at the readings, and run the compressor from battery and see if there is a problem. Also, pull ac control switch out of dash, and inspect the wiring on the back of the control unit(the unit with ac,fanspeed etc.)Check with a test light, the in,and out of the ac switch. One wire will be hot all the time, the other will be hot only when you push the ac button to on.See what you come up with and let me know,we will figure this [email protected]

Why is my 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 5.9L Air Condition compressor turning on all the time.

have the pressures checked in the a/c system. if its too low the compressor will turn on and off a lot. it could also be a faulty pressure switch.

2000 F150 4.6L AC problem

The pressure switch is right next to the battery negative terminal. To bypass the switch, remove the connector and use a paperclip to jump the terminals inside the connector. By the way, you need to put oil in the system, or the seals will quickly dry out.

Air conditioner won't work added freon changed low pressure switch compressor comes on when jumped across at low pressure switch just no cold air

The low pressure switch turns on appox 26 psi. If the pressure is lower than that, it wont work, you have a leak.

1996 Dodge Dakota 2.5 , AC runs fine if I connect compressor directly from battery, is there a way to test the AC switch?

if the compressor only works when directly feed power from the battery it sounds like the a/c system may be low on freon causing the system to shut down until its fixed.it could also be a pressure switch in the system,it should be checked out at a shop for proper freon level and pressure to know what needs repair instead of guessing.

My ac compressor on my dodge 2500 want engauge?

This could be a few things. The freon could be low, one of the switches (high or low pressure) could be bad, or you could have a bad compressor clutch. You can test the clutch by checking for battery voltage and ground at the two pin connector with the A/C on if you have both power and ground, then the clutch is bad. You really should start by hooking up pressure gauges to the A/C ports to check the pressures, and these vary depending on ambient temperature and whether the A/C compressor is engaged or not. I am willing to bet that the freon is low though and may be just as simple as recharging the system.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

How do you jump a/c compressor so it will take the freon?

The interuptions in compressor engagement is due to low side drops which is controlled by the pressure switch mounted on the low hose or large metal accumulator on the passenger side. Low side hoses are larger and the accumulator is on the passenger side engine compartment...a paper clip works fine jumping this low side pressure switch out until freon pressures increase enough to keep compressor running to accept freon.
