2009 A3 boot warning light

I have a 2009 A3. Every now and then I get a warning light on the dashbloard....it's an aerial view of the car with the boot section flashing. I don't find it anywhere in the manual, and I've got out and checked a number of times....the boot is definately closed properly.
When the light is on, the back wiper doesn't work.
Originally it only went on when there was something in the boot (as small as my laptop). But sometimes when there is something in the boot the light doesn't come on.

    oh sorry, South African word for trunk is boot.

Boot? an indicator light is on means something is not shut such as a door please clarify boot

    Thanks makes better sense , i would definitively say the switch is loose or worn out just enough to cause the indicator light to go on
    check the switch to ensure this is connecting enough try pushing the switch in and see if the light goes out

My audi a3 2.0 tdi has cut out and wont start seems like it is turning over realy easy it has done 53k there is and was no fumnny noises there is no warning lights or anything
I would suggest that you scan the computer for fault codes. There are different sensors that control ignition and fuel and any one of these sensors can cause the car to stall and refuse to start. The crankshaft positioning sensor could be the cause if it has failed completely. The check engine light may be burned out , therefore no warning lights.
