2003 cts won't start - we changed the fuel filter and it started

Fine but it died at the next traffic light and would not start again. The car has 106,000 miles on it. The code reader we borrowed from Autozone does not register any problems. Before all this the car was not starting after coming to a stop and turning it off until later after it cooled off a while.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. we hooked the car up to a better diagnostic machine and found that the problem was the cranking sensor. Replaced the part and everything is workikng fine again.

Many cars these days are equipped with an immobilizer. (you can find more information about the immobilizer in your owner's manual). The immobilizer allows the engine to run only if the correct key is used. If your car has an immobilizer, you probable see a "Security" or Key-shaped light coming on on the dashboard every time you turn the ignition ON. If this light is flashing when you turn the ignition ON, it could mean that there is some problem with an immobilizer or the system does not recognize the key. If the immobilizer doesn't recognize the key, the engine wold not start at all, or would start and then die in few seconds.
You can try a spare key, if it won't work, your dealer is the place to call. Sometimes, the key is just need to be reprogrammed. On some cars you can find the information how to reprogram the key in the owner's manual.

have the check engine light checked at a parts store its usuall free. I would bet its the idle air control motor. This controls the fuel air mixture at idle

2003 Cadillac CTS won't start after disconnecting battery

Don't do that again! You will need to re-boot the on board computer system by entering a code. Call your nearest Cadillac dealer.

I have a 2003 Cadillac cts it drives fine but if im at a red light I shuts down but not all the time

Sounds like a possible fuel filter. Bigger question - when was last tune up? With the different grades of fuel these days and with temps fluctuating a fuel filter would be my first thing to change.

The car cranks fine (good battery) but will not

Hey all. I've had my 2003 in twice for the Crankshaft position sensor. In Feb 08 it fixed everything. My car wouldn't start when it had been running for a while. I'd pull into a gas station, then go to start it again and it would just turn over. Same thing just happened in July 2010. They replaced the crankshaft position sensor again, but now it's still doing the same thing. If I let the car sit for 20-25 minutes, it will start and run just fine. However, this time around the check engine light is on and it has never come on. I'm open to any suggestions as to what to try next. What is the PCM exactly?
