Why won't the 300 shift into gear
ITS NOT THE SAFETY SWITCH ON BAKE PEDAL,WENT THRU SAME THING, HUSBAND TOOK IT APART, AND THE SPRING WAS BROKEN. THE SPRING IS PART OF THE BRIGHT PINK SAFETY SWITCH, EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT. IT KEEPS PRESSURE ON IT, SO WHEN ITS PRESSED IT RELEASES IT. WE OWN A 2006 CHRYSLER 300..
Safety switch in the counsel is faulty. The one that releases the shifter when you push on the brake.
I agree with d_lopez, solution #3. My 2008 Avenger had the same issue. While waiting for AAA, I grew tiresome. I removed the plastic gear shift panel, and was able to see the pink switch on the driverside of shfiter, attached to a cable. Turned car on, applied break, and tried to shift to R, using a pen to push the pink thingamabob back at the same time shifting to R.. After that, I was able to drive. HOWEVER, was parked, back to square one. If I were to take this to a transmission shop, I'm sure they would have came back with a more expensive problem.
It is more than likely the nuetral safety switch that tells the computer that the car is nuetral so you can put it in gear. check the switch on the brake pedal and make sure that it is engaging properly.

There's most likely a problem with the shift interlock system. To get you where you need to go you may over ride the system by placing the key in the on position, remove the liner of the cubby bin to the right of the shifter. This should gently pry out. There should be a button or an opening apparent now. While depressing this button you should be able to shift out of park.
Newer vehicles use electric solenoids to lock the shifter in park until the ignition is on and brake pedal depressed. If there is a fault in the brake switch, shift interlock solenoid, pcm or associated wiring you'll experience what you've described. The first thing to check is to see if your brake lights work. If they don't work then you know the brake pedal switch is likely the culprit and to focus you're attention at that part. The switch is mounted on the brake pedal usually above the pad. Look for physical damage, damage to wires etc. If they do work, it may still be the switch as some have more then one leg of the switch. One part of the switch may work while the other doesn't.

I just finished repairing my 2007 - 300 for the same issue. Pulled in the garage.. went to go out , and could not get the shifter out of park. Researched this issue online.. First step is to remove the right side plastic holder next to the shifter. There is a small hole that has a pink plastic piece. Push this in while moving the shift lever out of park. If the shift lever does not move, then the other "pink thingy" piece that is located inside the shifter box has most likely broken. There is a tiny spring that attachs to this pink piece ( probably a $0.50 piece of poorly engineered product ) that breaks off. See the following link on how to fix this problem. I drilled a small hole in the pink plastic piece where the small hook broke off.. then attached a cotter pin through the hole , and fastened the spring to that... should not have any further problems.. this link demonstrates how to remove the shifter box. It is in limp mode. Have the transmission computer scanned for codes. It likely has a bad speed sensor. If it has a code in the trans computer, the computer will lock the transmission is second gear.
