2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8S, with AC - how to replace belts?

2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8S, with AC.
There are 2 belts: the narrow one (power steering...), and the wide one (alternator...)

I was trying to release tension on the narrow belt first:
a) loosen the nut that fixes the adjuster;
b) loosen/tighten the adjuster.

When I tighten the adjuster, it does tighten the belt, but when I loosen the adjuster, it does not loosen the belt. It's just the adjuster that gets completely free of any tension, the pulley stay tighten so is the the belt.

Seems like the pulley is somehow fixed/stuck so the belt is tensioned regardless of the adjuster position. I also tried to loosen the central bolt that holds the pulley, but no luck - I can drive the entire engine with my hands, but the bolt stays tighten, tried both ways.

There is no way to get the wide belt off without taking off the narrow one.

How to replace the belts on this model?

First of all you don't have to loosen the pulley, this will no solve the problem, well you already loosen the adjuster, good, bot thing you have not done i will tell you now,on the power steering pump where the belt pass there is also a bolt that hold it ,you must loosen that also, then after you will see the pump moving on the two position that means you will see the belt loosen on 1 position an d the position it will tight the belt, try that man.............

If the tensioner is loose then there must be slack at that point, unless you are loosening the tensioner for the wide belt and not the narrow. Usually the belt that is serpentine ihas the tensioner and any belts thereafter are tensioned by adjustnent i=of one of the componants becacause theyare too far from the engine blck. Ck the accessoriess sriven by the narrow belt for adjustability.Good luck

What are you talking about -- on my 2005 sentra 1.8S there is no serpentine belt, there are two separate belts. And the narrow one is stuck. If you don't know what you are talking about shut your piehole.

How do i tighten power steering belt on a 1991 Nissan sentra

This is just a general answer. There are 2 ways to tighten a power steering belt, 1, by adjusting the power steering pump OR 2 by adjusting a tensioner pulley.
Inspect the belt system and see which one your vehicle uses. If the pump is adjustable, it will be mounted on one end by either a sliding bolt on a curved bracket like the alternator, or by an adjusting bolt.
If your car has an adjusting pulley, check the routing of the belt. It will normally run from the front engine pulley over the adjusting pulley then over the power steering pump pulley. The adjusting (tensioner) pulley will have to be loosened, then either pulled to the tightening position by hand and retightened, or else there will be an adjusting bolt and nut which must be turned to tighten the belt before retightening the pulley.
Sorry, I don't know your car that well so my answer is just generic.
Good luck

I have a 1988 Nissan Sentra. When I turn the key

Your problem is definately not a relay. It sounds as if the starter contact in your ignition switch is bad. The solution is to replace the ignition switch.

How do i replacen the belts on the pullys

On 1.8 engines. Loose the belt ajustment next to the power steering pump and remove the belt. There is nut holding this ajustment screw, For the one that goes into the Alternator loose the ajustment underneath the alternator, You dont have to remove any bolts on the Alternator or Power steeing pump. (To prevemt noise make sure you replace with Gates belts instead of Nissan.)

1997 nissan sentra serpentine belt

The serpentine belt has nothing to do with the brakes. It does have something to do with the alternator which charges the battery. the burning smell is probably the result of wasted grooves on the underside of the belt. it is the belt you see just inside the car engine compartment that turns the AC unit compressor pully , the alternator, etc.it is connected to the crankshaft pully.. If you have a front wheel drive it is located on the side of the engine compartment.
