Sounds to me like a fuel filter.When was the last time it was changed?Because if a car starts and runs till you give it gas under load then dies it is a fuel problem.Start by chaging fuel filter and if problem still persists then next thing to check is fuel pump.

one long flash and two short flashed means the ECM is working fine
check and see if the EGR valve is stuck closed when the engine gets hot
If stuck closed the EGR valve needs replacing for it supposed to open when hot

I WAS TOLD THAT SOMETIMES 3.8L IF IT HAS ABOUT 150K MILES THE TIMING CHAIN GET SLOPPY AND CAUSE;S THE ENGINE TO DIE !!! THEN START WHEN IT COOLS OFF ???

Replace the crank sensor as they get hot they will sometimes quit working. The temp light comes on everytime the engine is turned off and the switch is on. Next time it dies spray or pour some water on the sensor then see if it will crank and if it does you know what it is.

one of 2 items are probable. have the ignition module tested. also check the crank position sensor.check for spark and injector pulse when it dies.

Replace the crank sensor to fix it. It's next to the crankshaft pulley which has to be removed to replace. Next time it gets hot and shuts off , spray or pour some water on it and see if it will start. If it does then you will know what to do.
