Vw Passat 1998 B5 - Fail on display

Hi,
I have a Vw passat 1998 (B5) and on the dashboard beside the miles indicator on the display shows Fail and I also have the airbag light on. when I switch off the ignition the display shows me the milleage (trip). This Fail thing is from the airbag or from something else?

The fail just tells you there is a fault and you need to find out what is causing it. In your case it is the airbag. It's over 10 years old and I'm afraid that's about the limit on an airbag. Sometimes disconnectong and reconnecting the airbag will fix it but don't hold your breath

Do not worry, follow these checks,

fuses dedicated for both of them
fuel sensor and temp. sensor
their power supply
display panel, wiring,etc

Hi In my VW Passat 2002 model with 118K I got oil pressure indicator and stop sign in dashboard. and got off. what I have to do now?

Oh no sorry to hear that. You did the right thing by stopping. If you have the 1.8 turbo engine this happens too often. The oil pressure sending unit could be the problem, but most likely it is the oil pump. This engine has sludge buildup problem & VW is aware of it, so there is hope. VW issued this update awhile back....

Passat owners. 1998 through 2004: VW has just made a warranty extension covering certain oil sludge repairs on these models. It is now covered for 8 years unlimited mileage and will reimburse for repairs made because of this problem. See your local dealer or contact VOA for more information.

Where is the diagnostic port located on my 2001 passat 5 sp. auto V6?

On the old Volkswagen Passat B5 (MY 1997-2001) the Data Link Connector (DLC) or diagnostic port is placed on the right side of the parking brake lever, under a small rectangle rubber cover. See pictures below:

On the new Volkswagen Passat B5 (after MY 2001) the Data Link Connector (DLC) or diagnostic port is placed on the panel above pedals. See pictures below:

For 1998 VW Passat V6 the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover (for left hand steering wheel vehicle). On inner face of the plastic cover you will find the fuse diagram.
The cigarette lighter fuse for 1998 VW Passat V6 is placed in the fuse box / relay plate fascia 1, (driver's door open). See pictures below:
