2001 Honda Accord All brake lights out except 3rd brake light

All of the brake lights on the tailight are out except the 3rd brake light in the back dash. I checked the fuses, checked all the bulbs checked the sockets. I been told that it sounds like the switch and that the portion of the switch that controls those lights may be bad, and i've been told that its not the switch as the third light would not work either. I've also been told its a wiring issues. All these statements are from different Honda Dealerships, and honda acura certified shops. Im so confused and im not trying to waste a ton of money just to diagnose it

Is this the main ground to chassis in the front of the car, or the rear??

Hi!,

To me it sounds like a grounding issue...it's an 8 year old car so quite
possibly the chassis ground that the tail lights connect to is no longer
good. Probably a black wire going to a bolt screwed directly into the body of the car. Have to unscrew it sandpaper/wire brush clean the connection
coat with vaseline (prevents re-rusting) and retighten. Good luck!

Testimonial: "Great thanks for the info. no is it the main ground for the vehicle in the front of the car, or is int under the car in the back where the brake light"

Should be grounded either on the hatch (if the lights are mounted on the hatch) or the back
of the car if you own a three box (car has a trunk) This is kinda what you're looking for:

Where is the brake relay on a 2001 gmc sierra.

Try wiggling the hazard light switch while pressing on the brakes. The taillights are connected to the turn signal switch before it goes to the brake switch. The contacts on the hazard switch are probably dirty(I remember this problem years ago, same symptoms-3rd light works but l/R tailights not working). You may just be able to turn the hazards on+off a bunch of times to clean the contacts instead of replacing the switch.

I have A 2001 accord coup. The two main brake not working #rd dose

Here I assume that by refering to the 3rd light which means the one in the middle works fine.If this is so then it means that your brake switch located near the pedal are working perfectly here..So next thing you need is a meter and read the voltage reading at the connection point of the wiring to both indicators or brake light connection.Hopes this gives you an idea what to do.Good luck

Can I wire extra lights into the 3rd brake light?

Thats alot of work that you could just put into fixing the lights.

This might sound dumb, but make sure your tailights have the right biulbs in them.

If all is good there, then check or have checked the actual sockets for the bulbs.

I bet thats where your problem is.

2005 Honda Accord LX; do all lights in the back light up when brakes are applied?

you should only have three that show when brakes are applied unless you only have two brake lights and not the third light in the rear windshield if none are showing check each bulb to make sure they are not blown some may seem good but even if one of the two fase bulbs may seem fine one side may be blown and wil cause the lights to not function right

My brake lights stay on when the pedal is not pushed

Try replacing the bulbs in the tailight assembly, they do this sometimes when they are faulty, but still working. Eventually they will burn out completely from staying on.

1991 Honda Accord brake light probelm.

Check the prones inside the connector that you plug into the brake light module. You may have to squeeze, wiggle, tilt each one to see which one is not connecting all that good. I know it may sound confusing. I tried to explain the best of I could.
