2001 Jimmy 4.3 stumbles bad at any speed and teach jumps erratically

With a basic ignition system the tachometer "counts" electrical impulses in the ignition primary circuit and any fault in that circuit invariably affected the smooth running of the engine and was reflected by the tacho.

While in a computerised engine management system the tachometer is probably driven by the computer, there is certain to be a similar relationship between the smooth (or not) running of the engine and the behaviour of the tachometer if the fault is electrical/electronic.

modulator possible loose or faulty connection ---modulator shorting out --switch going bad ---or transfer case selector switch faulty also check fluid in transfer case

Erratic signals come from the speed sensors(all that I found). At the sensors by the tires/CV axles. When I tear them apart (the bearings) they have fine metal around them. The causes the erratic signals. As you said, they seem normal at most points. But you have to watch and see where(the signal) they jump. Could be 2 MPH or 20 MPH. Replace that wheel bearing.

It can be issue with IAC( idle air control valve) causing the problem.

There are many other possibilities causing these idle issues. Engine idles rough.

REMOVE AND CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY ALSO HAVE THE FUEL INJECTORS CHECKED

On connector c2 red conector-terminal #21 purple with white stripe is vss high signal wire---terminal #20 light green wire with black stripe is low vss signal wire-----I don't know what you are going after poss no vss for speedo inop or abs code for rear speed sensor erratic??? there are two sensors on top of transfer case right & left side both same interchangable parts swap them out for diag most likely problem is wiring at sensors poor temial fit you can order new connectors at dealer & solder them in also some time wire rubb through on top of trans GOOD LUCK
