97 Honda Civic Manual Transmission Issue(s)

I have a problem with my manual transmission in my Civic. I have recently installed a new (used) one that I bought with 100k mile's.. Immediatly upon completing the install and on the first test drive.. I notice a whining noise when downshifting and letting out the clutch... It sounds like reverse almost. It does this in all gear's, but I should note that it get's louder and more high pitched as I downshift.. ie... from 3rd to 2nd and lastly 1st. Secondly, sometime's while driving it I cant get the shifter to go Over to get it into 5 or reverse, this is sparatic.. but it happen's.. other then that, The tranny shift's great and is quite when driving.. only when downshifting do I hear the noise.. What do you guy's think?

I filled the oil to spec and it is not leaking. I used the Honda MTF and filled it until it started to spill from the oil check bolt.

Is the oil level good? Sometimes they will scream at you if it's not full, and make for hard shifting.

Providing there are no oil leaks at all, some transmission stabilizer may help. Any experience i've had with a whining 5 speed, is not good. Usually it's a bearing on it's way out. Try some of this, and see if it makes any difference. RISLONE® TRANSMISSION STABILIZER

2004 Honda Civic LX 1.7 Recently Had Transmission Rebuilt And It Fills Like If Transmission Pulls Slightly And Then Take's Off When Pressing The Accelerator Any Suggestions?

Is this automatic or manual? If auto, fluid might be low or the torque converter might be having issues. If manual, clutch might be slipping.

97 civic ex auto with 40k miles. Under slow acceleration, upshifts are 'lazy' with engine speeding up for a few 'moments' before shift is completed. More brisk acceleration delivers better or normal...

A '97 with only 40k ? Wow ! Sounds like a transmission issue. I would begin with changing the transmission fluid and filter. If that didn't work, I'd take it to a transmission shop because there isn't much you can do on your own with a transmission due to their inherent complexity.

Transmission install

I am assuming you have a manual transmission, but did you use a clutch alignment tool when you installed the clutch? If not you will never get it aligned. If the clutch is new, did you make sure the clutch disc will slide freely on the transmission shaft splines?
