Usually that problem is from a bad pickup coil or ignition module. The pick-up coil wires will break inside the insulation just enough to cause an occasional misfire. Modules can cause the same effect it they are over heating. New modules should come with some thermal grease for applying to the mating surface where they are fastened. If no grease was used it can cause the module to fail prematurely. I hope this helps you.
Have you had the ignition module checked or the voltage regultor

For those responding this condition has existed prior to replacing the distributor completely, new coil, new rotor, new dist. cap, plug wires, plugs and a tuneup. Does not occur all the time but on a random basis and then for may be 5 to 30 min. and then disappears until the next time and is not Ambiant temperature sensitive.
additionally the generator with regulator has also been replaced. Is this perhaps ECM related?
