Ok, so it seems like the selector shaft is long on my bad trans and short on the replacement trans. I think I can swap the shafts out, but the replacement case needs 2 bosses tapped to hold the switch that slides onto the longer selector shaft. It also seems the truch is selected by Cable?? Should this be possible?

It probably will unless the suburban was a 3500. And if the '95 is gas not diesel you may also have to replace torque converter. There is always a chance that some electronics will differ also. Esp. going from diesel to gas. You could have an auto parts store look up a shift solenoid for a '94 and compare it to the '95. Good luck. I hope this helps.

Yes they will swap out nicely, the years where they made the change is in 1997 and the only difference is the transmission end housing has a different bolt pattern but has the same internal parts. You may also want to swap out the servo's with a corvette servo. The cost is around $45.00 and can be done without dropping the transmission pan, this will make your transmission shift firmer and will have less clutch slip[ between gear shifts. Good luck and hope this information helps.

I swapped out a 2003 4L80E transmission for a 19994L80E transmission that was running fine in my friends Suburban that was working fine whith no trouble but it will not engage now. Any suggestions?

they are different years 1999 is up to 2000/2001 then the 2003 is 2001 to 2004/5. auto box module works different, box's look the same but the sensors are different inside you would need to change the auto module and pair it to your ecu on your engine.

I'm not so sure that the bell housings are the same. I know that the older ones were different. I would recommend calling A GMC dealer and ask someone in there service department your questions and a good dealer should gladly answer your questions.

Transmission Identification

If it's a 1500 then yes the 4l60E tranny is for you. If it's a 2500-3500 you'll need a 4l80E. The 80's are only used in trucks with a gvw or 7200 and greater.
