Car won't start

I am having a similar problem with my 2008 Elantra, it acts like has been flooded with gas (but I dont touch the gas pedal), it tries to start but just doesnt make it. After a few tries it finally catches. I have it at the hyundai dealer now for the 4th time and they cant seem to figure out what is wrong with it?

Check the Lemon Laws on your car, seems something like 3 repairs for the same problem with no resolution... Go online or ask the dealer and also on the back of every repair invoice from a dealer it should give the regulations for resolution and Lemon Laws... hope this helps... or simply take it to a different dealer for inspection...

Engine coughs and sputters and acts like its flooded on cold start.

Unlikely it's flooded, but I did have a similar problem with my car, and replacing the temperature sensor fixed it.

2002 dodge ram won't start if you step on gas peddle before starting it. What causes this? If you wait a couple of hours it will then start

Fuel injected engines don't need to be pumped before starting, if you do flooding can occur. Make a conscious effort NOT to touch the pedal until after you turn the key to the start position and the engine actually starts.

2008 envoy code reader showing high purge flow on the evaporitiv emission system po402 have replaced gas cap and evaporate valve to no avail the vehicle is also slow starting after filling with gas

common problem with those mods ,is evap purge valve would get stuck open, then after shutdown vapors from fuel supply sys would flood engine with excessive fuel vapor ,so when you go to start vehicle it would act like a flooded engine and take longer cranking before it starts, try holding gas pedal to floor after a 15 min shutdown and see if starts faster,i believe that purge valve is along the d/s of the engine block.

Dont touch the gas pedal or it might flood and not start. Have someone spray a little starting fluid in the Air filter tube while you try to start it.

My car won `t start sometimes an then it works again after a couple of hours

there can be a few things wrong.
1. do you press the gas pedal at all before you start? because that floods the engine
2. a clogged fuel filter can cause that to happen, it wont start the first few times you try it then it will after wards.
3. your fuel pump could be on its way out.
4. you might have starter problems

thats pretty much in order from cheapest (first one doesn't cost anything at all, just dont press the gas pedal) to most expensive
get it checked out, they wil know better when they see it and they'll be able to run some diagnostics

Car won't start

try this, if the car wont start push the pedal all the way to the floor and hold it ther while you crank. It sounds like you are flooding the car some how. Pushing the pedal to the floor puts the car into clear flood mode and it shuts off the fuel flow. try and see just a suggestion

Car won't start!!

AmyLynn001, 1st thing, let the car sit for a couple hours (because u smell gas, it's definitely flooded). Turn the key to start (do NOT touch the gas pedal!! Cars are designed now to start w/out touching the gas pedal. If u do, u will flood it, and make it even more difficult to start) When u turn the key, only hold it to turn the engine over for no more than 10 seconds. If after the 10 seconds it doesn't start, turn key off, wait about 10 seconds, repeat. (this is to reduce wear and tear on the starter, and to not run the battery down real quick). It sounds like several problems coming together caused this. U state that the car needs a tune up, it's likely the overheating, need of a tune up (car not performing to optimum efficiency) and pushing on the gas pedal, resulting in flooding, all came together to create this no start condition. Eliminate any one (preferably all!) and u should be able to start the car. So, hopefully just letting it sit and not touching the gas pedal while attempting to start will be enough to get u back on the road, then get that tune up soon. Let me know how u make out.
