it may be that you didn't run out of fuel but the fuel pump quit-check the fuse-you more than likely need a new fuel pump-the fuel pump and the fuel level sensor are one unit in the fuel tank-cheers Denny
to check it . wire at the fuel tank gauge unplug it the black and purple wire for gauge. put a variable resistor , fuel gauge is rated 0 to 90 ohms. So variate the resistor and see if fuel gauge move. if it does fuel sender have problem or inside tank wire
on driver's side, behind carpet where kick panel is, there is a green connector with several wires. check that the wires are not burned or connector is not melted. i found that the connector for the ground wire is melted and requires a splice around connector.
12.72 is what some new batteries have for a week or so Little high Only you know how old the battery is,4 years & it may be bad, happens,& the voltage can go up when bad, oddly
If your into the fuel pump thing, put a pressure gauge on it Don't guess. Can't hear pressure build.
it may be due to a bad fual pump open the little door to the gas cap and put your ear up to the tank and have someone turn the ignition on and see if you hear the pump, if nothing it may be in your pump.
The humming noise is from the fual pump. I had to change out 3 pumps before one would work. Put a pressue gage on the fual line to the carb and it should stay at +20 lbs for at least 1/2 day. Most likely the fual lines are ok and so is the fual filter. It is a very dangerous job to change out a fuel tank pump. I always have a machanic to the job. Think it over, safety first! And if the machanic installs a faulty pump then he will install another new one at no charge. Good Luck
Is the gas gauge part of the fuel pump assembly? Charlie
