F150 - won't move in reverse or drive out of 1st gear

Thanks for your answer...Just rebuilt trans on my 2002 F150 Supercrew this weekend after it suddenly wouldn't move in Reverse or shift into a higher gear. Isn't this a bit soon to replace trans on a vehicle with only 122k miles??

02 jeep 42re trans no drive only has reverse after checked sensors and solenoid A friend of a friend rebuilT it new torque converter filter and fluid and still only reverse after everything replaced

find a friend of a friend of a friend , next time.
LOL
if all forward gears are dead, and the manual lever works.
the trans is bad.
try with TCM unplugged to trans.
and all forward gears dead,
with no TCM , 1st gear must work, it must move.
unplugging it , prevents any TCM wrong doing.
and only the internal manual valve now works,
does it?

Truck will not move forward when put in any gear, drive, first,or second. But it will move in reverse. This just stated yesterday out of nowere. What do you think could be the problem???

I assume it is an automatic..In a case like that it is TRANS Failure..Did you check the fluid level or is it leaking anywhere. ?..You can try replacing the fluid and filter ...or even a shift solenoid..You didn't state how many miles you have on the truck,If it has been serviced before, and is it a 4-wheel drive.,What year model is it ,.?..Is it flashing any fault codes..? This would help me answer your question..However 9 times out of ten it is Trans Failure...Reverse is at the back of the trans and it is the largest gear...Although sometimes reverse goes out instead of forward gears...

My 2007 ford f150 will not go into reverse what could this be?

Most likely internal trans damage

Why !! Won't know until you take it apart
& then you may see the issues but never
know the cause

Hope you only have one trans problem in a lifetime

I have had a couple,one I rebuilt & one I payed
a fair amount for

Then I went into the trans repair shop as an owner
& it isn't pretty what happens there with all the transaxles
especially

You could hold out a small amount of hope that it can
be diagnosed & only a solenoid is blocked

How do you adjust the shift cable on a 1995 gmc jimmy, wont go into reverse or park.

On the 1995 Jimmy, the shift cable can come loose on the mount on the side of the transmission where the cable meets the trans. When it slips, the alignment goes off and causes the driver to not be able to put the trans into park. If you take a long stick you can push the shift arm on the trans to the park position and your trans will go into park.....what you (and I) really need to know is how to take the shift cable mount apart and reset it.

I have an '04 Silverado w/4l60e. When I shifted from reverse to drive the vehicle moved forward as usual but after 100 ft. I heard a loud crunch and lost forward motion. I can use 1st and 2nd range also...

The direct drive sungear is most likely the problem inside the transmision. The brass bearings do wear and the gearing get sloppy causing this noise. A complete tear down of the trans will have to be performed or a rebuilt trans is needed. If this has many miles on it replace the trans

F150 SUPERCREW 4X4 5.4L Got stuck in the snow and

sounds like transmission damaged. if forward gears are operational, suspect transmission failure. If nothing working ( either in 2 or 4 wheel drive) suspect transmission or transfer case.

Jeep was doing ok ,as i came up our mountian i felt two or three small jerks, when i was close to the top it just would not go forward anymore,i tried every gear drive 1st,2nd and reverse,I also tried...

it sounds like your automatic transmission quit his job. How much miles are on the clock? If more than 150.000 and you pulled trailers, climb mountains etc. this will be the first choice. Let the engine idle, push the brakes and check if the car will go in any gear. If this will happen only in reverse gear, your auto trans need to be replaces. You can use a rebuilt auto trans.

Transmission or Clutch problem?

Jeep #1: Sounds like a shift linkage problem. Possibly synchro forks are sliding back and forth on shift rails and are out of adjustment. This is internal and cannot readily be fixed without trans removal as far as I know. Hydraulic clutch system is non-adjustable. A new clutch should last at least 70K so, unless it was installed improperly, it should be OK. Check hydraulics for leaks & bleed. Clutch should "catch" about two inches off floor (not too low or not too near top of travel)
Jeep#2: Has a synchro or other internal gear problem... Symptoms are similar but gringing and clicking noises indicate worn or broken internal components!
Good luck to both!
