I would start the engine and let it warm up. Once it is warm spray some WD-40 around the intake manifold gaskets and around all vacuum lines and fitting you can get to. If you hear the engine start to stumble, concentrate the spray on that area until you are able to pinpoint the fault.
I would probably advise to return to the basics and diagnose the problem. Your dropping cylinder(s).At this juncture I would pull every plug and inspect.I would certainly visually inspect each porcelin on plugs for cracks.I would inspect every plug(s) burn characteristic and look for any anomoly that would suggest a deeper miss.(such as an exhaust valve) .I would look extra close at the plug wires and inspect ends for arching or corrosion. Spark plug wire should have 10k ohm per foot of resistance.Re-install everything and perform engine load test. This can be done by dropping the shifter in D> holding all brakes tight, then giving throttle to 1500-2000 rpm. (for a few seconds) This will create heavy load and will stress test the ignition system where it will highly increase the chance of the miss to show up . Once you have isolated and have a bearing on the actual missing cylinder, your well on your way to diagnosis.Im a bit concerned about the backfire your stating. If you are "lean" popping through the top(throttle body/breather) this might suggest fuel delivery, but if you are backfiring through exhaust, this would suggest dropping of cylinder(s) and Im smelling ignition mis-fire. Old time problems still happens on these cars and not always a 'wazoo" sensor. good luck finding your miss.....

i dont think that is it, i will try in am . i can rev the car manually and it revs fine it is when we get rolling that the tbl starts
what tbls are associated with a engine computer on the way out
have not got a response from my previous post
this last so called expert gave a poor remedy and then no longer responds some 12 bucks. if you read from the beginning i have changed a lot of parts. but i now have some up to date info. when it is stumbling and backfiring and missing when i am driving i put the car in neutral and can rev the engine smooth and clear, no miss or stumble but when it goes back in gear it misses again.what is th relation of sensors on the tranny speed sensors on their ability to give info to engine computer about spped etc. why does the engine rev alright but puttin it back in gear it gets sloppy again thanks
i do not know if you got my message from yesterday, when driving engine hot , you get the miss, stumble , backfire rumble but when you put the car in neutral still rolling the engine revs fine.no jumping missing etc. it seems like when the speed sensor or something gets engaged the car loses timing. how much sharing of info between the two computers engine, tranny is done can the problem be here
thanks
thanks for advice but like i wrote before when all this stuff happens, stuttering, etc. i go into neutral the engine revs fine and idles fine.. dont you think a bad timing chain bad plugs, wires would continue with a high rev. it seems to me something else engages when you put it into drive,do any of the tranny speed sensors now effect engine////??? THANKS
could you please answer my last post
i am going to go with vtiming belt, lets hope vinny thanks
