The CD player and the CD changer don't work in my 2001 A6. I get the message CD ERR 1. Can you tell me what the error message means? I bought the car used, and never got any manuals. I also have a satellite radio which has been working fine up until the CD players failed. Now, the satellite radio comes on for about 10 seconds, then the error message comes on for 10 seconds, then it toggles back and forth like this for up to 30 minutes.

Thanks for the suggestion. We tried it, but now we have SAFE as the message and we don't have the code for the radio. Will try calling the dealer.

Is there a CD inside the CD player? You could try pulling the fuse for the radio (look at the fuse box panel for the exact fuse) and leave it out for 10 secs, then turn the car to the on position and leave for 20-30 secs.. turn the car off and put the fuse back in and then turn the car on and if you;re lucky, the radio will reset... This works for Volkswagens and since Audi is the same company, it should work

CD ERR 1

Have a 2005 Freelander and the battery died. When I re-charged the battery, the CD changer had a CD ERR 1 message. Could not eject or load a CD and the radio worked. I turned off the radio and pulled off the cover on top of the CD changer. I removed the two screws that hold the frame around the CD changer. I turned the CD back on and the CD went through a test on each CD. I know this solution might not work for everyone, but it worked for me

Getting E-1 error message for radio

Well I had a 1990 Xj6 with an aftermarket cd-changer in the trunk and it didn't work, so when I took it to an audio specialist he said that it needed to be replaced. But what he did say is that most manufactures use the same connection cables for their products, ex. Sony plugs will work on all Sony cd-changers. I now have a 1994 Jaguar XJ6 and I have the same error code. I know that Jaguar installed Alpine CHM-S620 cd-changers. So in theroy you could go to an audio store and get the same cd-changer and it should have the same plugs so you wont need to rewire anything. I havent done it yet because I just bought the 1994.
