My van as I was driving just stopped shifting into gear. It never made any noise, nothing just all of a sudden stopped shifting.

Hello. It seems your Ford Econoline van has a gear shift 'lever' and 'linkage' issue. The 'interlock' locking mechanism is worn on your van. When one 'slaps' and 'manhandles levers, this is what happens; especially as the vehicle ages. The speedometer cable on that van, also, needs to be replaced. Sounds like perhaps the splines on the torque converter output shaft may have failed, there was a recall on some of those for that very issue. Here is a news article about the issue:

Its Possible the chain in transfer case is stretched I had the same problem a used case was 250 at my local salvage yard

If this is truly a escape your transmission is finished.

my van is doing the same exact thing but the othe day it was perfectly fine no slipping i went about 25 miles and i started off from a stop the engine rev and tranny slipped and the van died i restarted the van it runs great but acts as if there is no transmisson does not take power frm ngine when shfted does nothing please help

the transmission is controlled basically by the computer. do you have the check engine light on ? is there any codes coming out of the code reader ?

I had a Ford Winstar van that had this problem. There is an acceleration switch near the firewall on the passenger side that needs replacing. Unless you're very good under the hood, see a mechanic as it's a totall B**ch to get to the darn thing!

You have a worn shift fork in the trans. Time to have the trans rebuilt.
