Check engine light came on went to retrive code and found out it was the vss changed the vss but i still cant get my speedometer to work
CHECK YOUR VECHICLE SPEED SENSOR WIRE FOR DAMAGE.OR THE MAGNET GEAR ON TRANSMISSION OUT PUT SHAFT IS BROKEN OR DAMAGE.IF THEY ARE GOOD YOUR PROBLEM IS IN THE DASH.BROKEN SPEEDOMETER.
I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla. As the battery deteriorated I had to jump-start it. Around the same time the speedometer "broke". In fact the indicator needle was on the underside, the wrong side, of the tiny black pin on the dash that it usually rests on when the ignition is off. So the speedo was working it was just the indicator could not rise above zero as it hit the rest pin. When I took out the old battery and replaced it, which took a few hours including a round trip to the shop, the speedo "reset" itself. So disconnecting the battery for a few hours fixed it. About a year later the alternator broke and the battery was drained. This time a garage replaced the battery and alternator but the speedo was left in the same state with the indicator on the wrong side of the rest pin. The garage recommended new sensors in the gear box etc, but in fact all I had to do was detach the cables from one of the battery posts, leave it for a while (in my case overnight) and in the morning the speedo had reset itself - the needle was back to being above the rest pin. Then just re-attach the cable.
