Replaced battery and alternater tested fine but car will not start

  • edolwick Aug 15, 2009

I have not checked those and need to know how to. The car will only start with a jump and will only run for a short distance then dies again. I relaced the battery and took the alternater out and it was fine but the car will not hold a charge. I was told possbly fuel pump, wires from the alternater, sensors? not sure where to start

You say after you jump it it runs for a little while and then you have to jump it again you need to check the line from the alt. to the batery for a fusable link or inline fuse sounds like its not charging the battery

It is very possible that you need a new starter. If the engine wont even turn over like its trying to start then its the started. If the engine is trying to start but wont then its probably the fuel pump.

Battery and abs light come on then car dies new battery and alternater

Take an have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Guessing an replacing parts isn't the way . The charging system on your vehicle is computer controlled by the PCM - engine computer,. Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

Interior Dash Lights dim, brake & battery warning lights flash on and off.

Sounds like your alternater, get a multimeter set it to volts start the car then check the battery is getting 14 or over volts from the alternater to the battery , if your getting less than that it's not putting enough volts back to the battery to run the car with good luck colin

New alternature wont charger battery

Does the alternator light come on before you start the vehicle..
If not the alternater is incorrectly connected or the globe is blown . It will not charge if the globe is faulty.

My alternater will be fine then it drops off to 9 volts. I have had my alternater bench checked and they say it's good so i replaced my battery. all cables and connections are good but it only works...

If it tested good during a bench test, and the problem was intermittent, the test was not done long enough to simulate the problem with voltage output. Replace the alternator.

1996 dodge wont start keeps draing batteries

sounds like an alternater problem. the batt is not charging and is only running off the batt untill it runs out. check the wires ect on the alt and if that doesnt work, get a salvaged alt.
