Stuck in park, Land Rover Discovery

I have a Land Rover Discovery and it is stuck in park. No brake lights when I press the brakes. I have replaced the brake light switch and replaced a blown fuse. Still no luck. Any thoughts on what else it may be?

Had the same problem with my 03 Disco. Went through the usual, checking the fuses, etc. I went ahead and replaced my break light switch on the brake pedal. $15.00 fix, or I thought so; still had the problem! Took it in for repairs and found out it was fuses after all... To get the parking lock to disengage you need to pull of the housing, which is tough and then press in the locking pin at the base of the shift lever to shift out of park. you can do it with the engine running and it will drive just fine until you put it into park again. Check your brake lights if there is a problem. Could be a sign of the brake switch failure. In my case the lights were out, but a cheap trailer rental did the damage. The short in the trailer blew some fuses and it was a problem that cost me $60.00 at the repair shop....

I had the stuck in park issue and no brake light it was 2 fusses fuse #9 and 13 that are for the rear fog guard light the other one is #12 multifunction unit! replaced those two and the brakelights worked and the shift solenoid released the shifter! when this happens its either the brakelight switch or a series of fuses! Check all fusses!

Check both sides of the switch for voltage, is it a two wire switch firstly? if so then check the hot side if voltage is present then push the brake pedal down and check the other side of the switch if it is a 2 wire switch. If no voltage then suspect a broken wire.

You can energise the interlock solenoid, by you give a positive (+12V) lead to the RED and a negative (ground) to the black line at the transmission selector's connector.
If it works you should check the positive signal at the red.
It should be there if the ignition is on, brake pedal depressed, and the transfer box is in some gear, and the fuse 1 isn't blown.
At the black cable should be a ground signal if the selector in 'P' position.
If you give me an e-mail address I'll send the wiring.

The ABS problem, you have better to check followings.
- All the wheels bearings' play.
- are the ABS sensors at the deepst position? Knock some to that head (not strong) and they shouldn't move deeper.

Wont shift out of park, brake lights dont work

your brake switch is broken, its on the top of brake peddle. It wont shift from park because you need to press brake to shift from park and with the switch not working it doesn't know your pressing the brake. check connection on switch if its fine you need to replace.

Brake light doesn't come on for a 1999 land rover discover

Your brake lights are not coming on and the vehicle is stuck in park it sounds like the brake light sw is failed or unpluged its usually located above the brake pedal on the pedal bracket it turns on the brake lights and unlocks the shifter when depressed.

My 1997 land rover discovery is stuck in park

This can sometimes happen when the brake sensor is not being activated. If you press *really* hard on the brake, you can sometimes get it to trip, allowing you to get out of park. Generally, the sensor will have to be replaced, but I have had one car (2002 Ford Explorer) where this trick would make it work for months at a time.

My Land Rover Discovery Will non come out of Park What could be some of the causes.

First check that the brake lamps work, if they do not , check the fuses , the switch and wires to it at the brake pedal. The transmission shift lock is controlled by a brake switch. Hope that helps

Stuck in park, Land Rover Discovery 2002

well the brake also has a switch by the floor that controls a actuator that allows you to remove shifter from park check fuses again to make sure they dont continue to pop if they do you might have faulty wiring somewhere in circuit

Brake light is on on my 2003 discovery (land rover) brake fluid leaking from the container

Check your brake fluid level. If it is low, that light will come on. If the fuid level is ok, and the switch is ok, check the p/b switch

parking brake switches are usually normally open and go closed when the brake is engaged, the brake handle going up releases the switch and then presses it back down when you put the brake handle down, 9 out of 10 times the switch gets pushed to the side or broken so when you put the brake handle down it does not push the switch down. this would be the first place I would look.
The parking brake light is also an indication of a problem with the brake system
