Security Theft System comes up on Cadillac CTS 04 - Cannot start

Hi Joan Whittaker,what does no crank mean.
the starter motor is dead? some posters call d crank= running engine.
which engine there? cranks fast but will not start.
underhood fuse box f24 blown?
step 2 after all fuses checked is:
shift to Neutral see if that allows cranking per my red circle below
is PCM control.
is the dash IMMO lamp happy?

as you can see the pcm decides to do the cranking or not
via its starter relay.
if you scanned the PCM it will tell you why it id not start.
immo error OR A/t PRNDL (TRS) ERRORS. OOPS

By disconnecting the battery, you also disconnected all the set up of the security and engine immobilizer coding.

Look for a button that allows you to slide the physical key out of the fob. Step 2: Turn the vehicle key to unlock the car door without releasing it. Hold the key for 30 seconds in this position. This will signal to your car's system that you have the right key, and will enable you to bypass your car's alarm system.

Is the security light lit ? Car an pad lock symbol . If any of these are lit it is the anti-theft system . Does the engine crank over but won't start an run ? The anti-theft system will allow the engine to crank but not start , disables fuel injectors . If the anti-theft light is lit there are DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes stored in the theft deterrent module an or the ECM .
Does anything happen when you turn the key to the start position ?

The vehicle is having problems reading the tiny metal security slug in the ignition key. When you used a key to unlock the door, you disabled the security system so it started. There are a variety of different resistance values on the slugs in the key. You can have someone with a ohm meter read the resistance of yours and install a fixed resistor of the same identical value to the wiring for the key security system. You may alternatively spray contact cleaner or a bit of WD-40 in the ignition switch to clean it off. Insert and remove the key several times, wiping it off each time you remove it.

Disconnect battery for 30 mins. I think this will do it. Otherwise, ask friendly dealer service rep.

sounds like anti theft device has kicked in needs to be reset dont know how to do that though

Don't do that again! You will need to re-boot the on board computer system by entering a code. Call your nearest Cadillac dealer.

Hi,
If your portable remote is not work , you may need to replace the battery with new one. If it not work , you need to disconnect power supply into your security system / immobilizer / anti theft.

Hello, I also have a 2004 CTS and I suspect you may have a problem with the key you are using to start the car. The key is hard-coded to the car with a small electronic chip (resides inside the key). If this chip is damaged or not communicating with the car at the time its entered into the ignition, the car's security system assumes you are trying to steal the car with a bogus key. If you have a spare key, I recommend using that one or have the key replaced by the dealer.

remove pos cable from batterie it will then release the key and might reset the antitheft
also if the car has antitheft and is under repo they might have locked you out of the car and it will not start untill they release it
